During the month of April on BHTV On Demand, we will be replaying some fan favorites. On America's Backroads travel to Council Bluffs, IA and visit the Acorn Feed Store for a good ole fashion jam session; and visit a one ring circus in St. Louis, MO called Circus Flora.

There are also episodes of Reno's Old Time Music Festival featuring The Osborne Brothers and LeRoy Troy; and classic moments with Skip Ewing and Jerry Jeff Walker on Heart to Heart.

April will also be the final month that American Journeys: Bluegrass Memories hosted by Mac Wiseman will be available. A must see for Bluegrass fans with historical footage from one of Mac's festivals in Renfro Valley, KY in the early 70's.

Affiliate News
We would like to welcome our newest affiliate, Windom Cable, coincidentally located in Windom, Minnesota. They began carrying us in early March on Channel 67.

I am happy to report that my travels during the month of March have been much closer to home here in Hendersonville. In fact, I left Tennessee only a couple of times. The first trip was to attend some cable television industry functions in New York City. I actually used to live there but left town back in the 90's. It is always a lot of fun to visit but I was ready to get back to the "bluehighways" after a few days. Interesting to note that The New York Times wrote a huge article in early March describing how popular the bluegrass and folk music scene is right now in Manhattan and the surrounding areas. read more »

A Magical Weekend with Lynn Beckman

I want to introduce you to a couple of good friends of mine, Lynn Beckman and his wife Mary. Lynn is a great singer/songwriter from western Maryland and also an investor in BlueHighways TV.

I first met Lynn quite a few years ago when he was hosting several festivals in Cumberland and Swanton MD. The Reno Tradition plays the Canal Fest in Cumberland and the Autumn Glory Days Festival in Swanton every other year. The shows go all the way back to Lynn having my father and Red Smiley playing many times for him. read more »

Little Things Mean a Lot

Hosea Bilyeu

As host of "Old Country Church," I get numerous inquiries about people who have appeared on our shows. My dad, Hosea Bilyeu appeared many times on the show, quoting scripture and telling stories. He was a natural for TV. He would simply forget that a camera was in the room and start talking to the cameraman, an old friend, or an audience member. Many of the questions I have received are about him. He went to be with the Lord he loved in 1995.

On my dad's tombstone is the epitaph, "Blessed are the pure in heart." Those words are not there because my father was pure in heart, even though he was that. There is more to the story. read more »

Front Porch
Reflections on a Rainy April Day
by Stan Hitchcock

Some of my fondest memories are the times talking with Ernest Tubb, Roy Acuff, Carl Smith or Red Foley and listening to the stories of the historic years in Country Music, in those years when the groups toured the land with the dog house bass tied to the top of the touring car. The glory days when Bill Monroe toured the country with his own Baseball team and circus tent to bring his show to communities, giving them both Country Music and Sports, all in one package. read more »

VIEWER MAIL: I am new to your network since getting sky angel TV and must say that I am enjoying every aspect of BHTV. I haven't seen TV this good since my childhood and my grandchildren can now benefit from this. I hope you can help me with a question. I watched a show that aired on April 9th from 10:00PM-11:00PM. The group sang songs about Texas but I never heard the name of the group. This show just floored me and I would like to know who they are...and I hope you air them again. Thank you from me and my family for great TV!

Our readers remember home music parties
Many of you contacted me regarding the article on home music parties: February Issue

We heard from Eric Lewis of West Plains, Missouri who says he got his musical start at age 15 by playing in home music parties. As President of the George D. Hay Society, Eric explains that the West Plains area of Missouri is just 30 miles north of where the Grand Old Opry founder got his inspiration at that 1919 "cabin hoedown" in Mammoth Springs, Arkansas. Many of you might be familiar with Eric Lewis and his music partner Kirby Clark as the bluegrass group, Lewis and Clark Expedition! Check out two sites www.ghhaysociety.com and www.lewisandclarkbluegrass.com

Linda Johnson from Rockford, Illinois says:
"From the time I was 9 years old till I was 14, my family would get together at either Uncle Ray's or my Aunt Betty's home to sing and play. Uncle Ray played fiddle, Aunt Betty played the piano, my Mom would play the accordion, Dad drums, and all of us kids would sing. All would bring food or treats and wade through the snow in Northern Illinois. Today my husband and I get together with our daughter's family and three year old grandson for our own little singing!"

Q & A:
Bob Woodford has submitted the following question:
Q: Is BlueHighways TV being broadcast on any cable TV throughout the country?
I really miss the programs and I don't have DSL so I can't do the internet programming that well.

A: BlueHighways TV is on various cable systems around the country and we will be adding several million more homes this coming fall. On cable we have to go to each city and negotiate with the local cable companies for carriage so there is no national cable company. With satellite companies DirecTV and DISH, they cover the entire United States and we are in negotiations with both companies. That is why we ask our fans to call and write letters to their cable and satellite companies asking for BlueHighways TV.

David Jackson has submitted the following question:
Q: What channel do I pick you up on Comcast?
A: We are currently in negotiations with Comcast for carriage on their systems nationwide. It really helps to get us added to your line-up when Comcast gets a word, e-mail, phone call or letter from their subscribers about BlueHighways TV. We will keep you updated through our enewsletter.
You can send an email to your cable system directly from the BlueHighways TV website. Click here

w.d. alexander has submitted the following question:
Q: how do I sign up for broadband to get channel 640 on my computer?
A: Go to www.tvunetworks.com and download the TVU Player, which takes about 30 seconds, then click on channels and find BlueHighways TV channel 640. Click on our logo and there we are.
