New Years Eve at The Ryman |
|
This past New Years Eve I was able to do something completely different, but had a great deal of fun doing it, I played with some great friends of mine at a New Years Eve party at the historic Ryman Auditorium. Del McCoury put together a
musical celebration that included Ronnie Bowman, Steep Canyon Rangers and Drew Emmitt and Vince Herman of Leftover Salmon and some other special guests. We had a great time in front of a sold out audience and it was broadcast live
nationally on Sirius Radio. This was the second year Del organized this concert and he plans on making this an annual event. Another bit of news from the Del McCoury camp, this coming May Del is organizing Del Fest in Cumberland, MD.
He's putting it together now but it looks like it will be a huge event, he's already booked one of the best groups in Bluegrass, The Reno Tradition, so obviously the entertainment will be top notch. We'll keep you up to date.
I want to wish all of our BlueHighways fans out there a Happy New Year and hope to see you out on the road.
Take care friends,
-- Ronnie Reno
During the BlueHighways' Christmas party Denise Hitchcock gave me what some would consider a rather strange gift. However for me it was a perfect gift. The gift was a statue of a flying pig. Going back to my university days I decided to
name my pig "Pigasus", a tribute to John Steinbeck. Steinbeck would often sign some of his books by drawing a pig that flies. The reason being is that he believed that "man must aspire even though he is earth bound" or "to attain the
heavens even though his equipment is meager". I like to think of it as aspiring to do the impossible. Today "Pigasus" sits on my office desk as a inspiration to me to strive to make the impossible possible.
