We are continuing throughout May with new episodes in our daytime programming of Twice Baked with the Kelly Twins and Down the Road with Doc Sanders.

On Memorial Day watch for a special episode of Cruisin': Route 66 as host Michael Wallis introduces us to some of the fascinating people who have dedicated their lives to Route 66, America's Main Street.

For those of you who missed it back in February, on American Journeys on May 19th we will re-air the pilot episode of The Red Road as we introduce you to the remnant band of the Shawnee tribes who stayed behind in Ohio and avoided the Trail of Tears.

Most of us at BlueHighways TV are headed out to New Orleans this weekend for the cable industry's largest annual convention. We have a booth there and besides offering lemonade and cookies and a new compilation CD of BlueHighways TV music, we will be raffling off a Gibson Epiphone guitar as well. For many of us it will be the first time back to New Orleans since Katrina, and for some it will be the first time ever.

We continue to meet with cable TV operators, satellite companies, telephone companies and pretty much any group that offers television channels to the home. Check out our website to see if we are in your area yet and remember, your support with your own service provider is always appreciated. See you next month on the BlueHighways.

It gives us great pleasure to announce the 1st Annual DelFest to be held in Cumberland, MD at the Allegany Fairgrounds on the 23rd – 25th of May. Del McCoury and his family are putting on one of the biggest shows of the year and what's so great about the festival is that it's a family style event with a lot of Del's friends.

The show has The Del McCoury Band, Vince Gill, Sam Bush, Chris Thile's Punch Brothers Band, Dierks Bentley, and a host of other great bands including The Reno Tradition. The weekend will start with a band contest and then the band performance's start. There will also be jam sessions and Del and his sons will be every where picking and grinding. read more »

New York City
by Davida Shear
In an earlier column, I mentioned that I had lived in New York City, for many (many) years, residing in the heart of Manhattan in a neighborhood called the Upper West Side. At the time I thought I would never leave such a great, big, fascinating City. But, eventually, a place like New York can take its toll on one's humanity- at least it did for me. When I look back on my journey out of Manhattan and onto the BlueHighways, a key incident stands out in my mind that propelled me into a different, kinder way of life. I would like to share this story with you. read more »

Q&A
Q: I purchased the CD of the "GOOD Will Trio" and love their music. Where can I find more?
A: The only CD the Goodwill Trio ever released was the one BlueHighways produced and released 2 years ago. We recorded more music with the Trio in 2007 prior to the passing of founder Speedy Haworth and we will be releasing a new CD of the Goodwill Trio in the fall in time for Christmas.

Q: I am trying to find a channel where I can get BlueHighways TV. Can you help me? Ann Graham via email
A: Ann, there are several ways to find BlueHigwhays TV. If you go to our "Find Us" (link) page on our website there is a list of cable companies and cities that BlueHighways is available. IF we are not currently available in your city or on your cable system, you can also watch us online at TVUNetworks.com. We are constantly working to add more cable/satellite companies and you can help by completing the request form.

James "BIG CHIEF" Wetherington
by Bob Bilyeu

By almost any standard, The Statesmen were the top gospel quartet of the late 50's and early 60's. They won the Arthur Godfrey Talent Search and signed by RCA records. Hovie Lister, a Georgia preacher and singer, put together an exciting new sound which brought together a mixture of gospel music styles like nothing heard before in gospel music. Elvis Presley idolized them and credited them with helping him develop his "rock and roll" style. People even said he copied his leg movements from Statesmen bass singer, "Big Chief" Wetherington. His favorite singer was Jake Hess the Statesmen's lead singer. read more »

A Letter From Mama
by Stan Hitchcock

It was a beautiful fall day in September, 1978 as I pulled my car through the gate at the old Hitchcock farm, deep in the Ozark Mountains. I'd been a long-time gone from these hills and I came searching for some good memories, or maybe a memento or two of the carefree farm kid that I had been, so many years and miles ago.

When I left these Ozark hills to go to Nashville in the late summer of 1962, following my music dream, I hardly took the time to even look back, I was in a hurry ‘cause I had a song to sing and the world had an ear to listen and I couldn't wait to get started. read more »
