New DVD
The Legend, The Singer, and The Man
Sometimes when you find a jewel in the rough you get real excited and want to tell the world about it. Well this is one of those times. I was over at Mac Wiseman's house and telling him about some old footage from 1955 I had found up in
Renfro Valley, KY of the Renfro Valley Barn Dance and that we were doing a special on the old show. He laughed and told me he had some old footage that was shot in 1971 at a festival he did in Kentucky that no one has seen since then.
Well, you can imagine how excited I was to hear this. I asked Mac to let us do a special with him telling his story and we would show the old footage of him and some of his friends.

History in Flowers
Last month was busy for the Hitchcock household. We were thankful that it came in like a lamb since we had the wedding of our son Scott to his new bride Kathryn Roberson on March 7th, and our lawn held a major circus tent for the
reception. The first of our spring bulbs burst through and I quickly picked as many as possible to add to our wedding decorations. Now that we have thundered into April our yard has become a tourist designation with thousands of spring
bulbs in more than 13 varieties. Photographers with brides and babies in tow use our farm as a backdrop, and I pick as many gift bouquets as I can; the more you pick the better flower crop for next year.

FRONT PORCH
Travels on the blue highway in Spring of '09.
April just started and Denise and I have been out and about just about every day. We drove to Wisconsin for Easter and before that had just got
back from a week in Washington, DC for the National Cable Television Association convention.
Always good to see old friends in cable and push our BlueHighways TV adventure. As always, when Denise and I are out of town on business, we always find time to explore and enjoy the local scenery and attractions. Enjoyed quick runs to
the Smithsonian, walked by the old Ford Theater where President Lincoln was shot, looked in the window of the International Spy Museum and loved the Cherry Blossoms on the trees. Yep, not exactly a walk down a country road but an
adventure just the same.

"AT THE CORNER OF MUSIC ROW, AND MEMORY LANE"
By Stan Hitchcock
Songwriter Heroes
I KNEW A MAN BOJANGLES…
Jerry Jeff Walker . . .
Songwriter . . . Entertainer . . . American Hero
As I've told you before in this rambling dissertation on how to be a card carryin' hillbilly; my heroes are the folks who create the music: Those special people who take empty words and music notes and string them together with beauty.
One of my favorite songwriter is transplanted Texas legend, Jerry Jeff Walker.
Jerry Jeff is originally from New York State, but you couldn't have tied him there when he left High School in the 60's and hitch-hiked south - he didn't care where, just south. After spending a few days in Florida, he joined up with
some other vagabonds and headed for New Orleans. Jerry has never gotten over New Orleans, from that first night he found it; as he arrived in the French Quarter, he thought there must be some special holiday celebration going on . . .but
no, it was just a regular night in the Quarter. . .
