Beautiful Star of Bethlehem
by Bob Bilyeu
"Christmas Is for Children" or so the song says, and in the old country church that was definitely the case. My early Christmas childhood memories were centered around the Christmas program at New Haven General Baptist Church at Chestnutridge, Missouri.

The New Haven of my childhood was a one-room building with a raised platform in the front. In the middle of the church was a big pot-bellied wood stove. Two gas lanterns hanging from the ceiling provided the light since electricity was still several years away. On the platform in the northwest corner of the church was a beautiful old Gulbransen piano which my older cousin, Aileen, played. click here to read more> >

The History of Writing a Song
by Ronnie Reno
I received an e-mail from Mary Beckman the other day and I thought I'd share it with our friends who get our newsletter each month. The Reno Tradition has been recording a gospel CD with our good friend Lynn Beckman and it has one of my favorite gospel tunes of all time on it "If I Could Hear My Mother Pray Again". I was asking Mary if she knew any thing about the song. Here's what she found out.

Odetta
by Michael Johnathon
She had a heart as big as the Universe ... and a voice that filled it. Now, that magnificent voice is silent. And the Universe is almost still in tribute to the kind, generous, passionate woman that was Odetta.

Horses Have A Social Night by Stan Hitchcock
Kinda quiet on the front porch of our old farm house here on Deshea Creek in Middle Tennessee. Time of year, between Thanksgiving and Christmas when you let your mind float about, thinking of family, of blessings, of friends too long unseen and loved ones gone to that long Home and forever missed. Deep in thought, I walk down to the fence and my old horse, Memory Maker, comes up to have his neck and head rubbed and gently murmur in horse talk to me. It is a comfort.

I love horses. Been loving them all my life and don't reckon I'll stop now. I was raised up on a horse and cattle farm in the Ozarks and some of my earliest memories are of horses. When I was little, somewhere around 1 year old, my Mom, Ruby Ann, would hold me on the saddle in front of her when she rode her horse.
