Bringing The Kids Into Bluegrass Music
by Denise Hitchcock
We had an old fashioned musical Christmas. It was a big family gathering in Danville, California with four excellent musicians, and a 17 member appreciative audience that contributed loudly during sing-alongs. The musicians were Stan Hitchcock, son Scott along with nephew Rev. Michael Sharps and son Alex. It was our own private bluegrass concert complete with folding chairs! read more> >

New Years Resolutions
by Mary Woodlief
We ring out the old year singing "Auld Lang Syne" with fireworks, meeting with old and new friends, trying to stay awake to say Happy New Years, we await the drop of the Big Ball and the many other ways that we choose to celebrate the coming New Year. I don't know about you but for me it's a time of reflection to look back on the past year with heartfelt thankfulness for God's provision and care. The years past have mellowed me so much. How about you? read more> >

Turning 90 With Grace
by Ronnie Reno

Let me introduce you to the legendary Curly Seckler, one of the "First Generation" of Bluegrass performers. Curly has been playing for 75 years and was one of the Foggy Mountain Boys of Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs fame from 1949 until 1962. Curley was with them almost from the beginning. He sang tenor with Lester and played mandolin and recorded well over 100 songs including such popular hits like "Roll in My Sweet Baby's Arms", "Salty Dog Blues", "I'll go Stepping Too" and "Dim Lights, Thick Smoke". read more> >

Front Porch Ramblings
The Shadow Of Your Smile
by Stan Hitchcock
"Curly Chalker, the best dang steel guitar player that ever slid a bar across strings…."

Early one morning, in 1998, one of my musician friends called me and told me that one of my old compadres had just died, namely Curly Chalker; the best dang steel guitar player to ever slide a bar across strings, and asked me if I would come and sing at the funeral. Many years ago, around 1970, I recorded a song called "The Shadow Of Your Smile"; an old pop standard with one of the prettiest melodies I have ever heard. read more> >

Tennessee Barn Dance
Stan Hitchcock will be doing something Saturday, January 16th that he very rarely does anymore…performing live on stage.

Stan's long time friend John Hitch is retiring and has asked Stan to perform…of course, he couldn't say no. John was the driving force in revitalizing the long running Tennessee Barn Dance in the 1960s and is the host and creator of Mayberry Country Classics which play on several radio stations.

Stan will take the stage at the Ritz Theater in Clinton, TN on January 16 at 7pm ET.
