DelFest a Big Success
It's with great pride that I report on our trip to Cumberland, MD and my weekend with the Del McCoury Family. There was a great crowd that came to Cumberland to join in the celebration of Del's fifty years in the music business.

The whole weekend was put together as a celebration with Del and his friends, family and fans. I was able to talk to Vince Gill, David Grissman, Ronnie and Robbie McCoury, Sam Bush, David Bromberg, Angel Band and the man himself, Del McCoury. We talked about his many years in the business, his successes and this wonderful festival that has become known as DelFest. read more >

Hi Stan:
Is your heart as sad as mine is today? Eddy's death came as no shock to those of us who were aware of the circumstances over the past few weeks but still, it is sad to think of this old world without the great Eddy Arnold. He had been a part of all our lives for so long and to most of us seemed like a member of the family. They say to be a success on TV you have to have a quality about you whereby people want to invite you into their homes and Eddy sure had that. read more >

New Orleans - NCTA Cable Show
Near the end of May, many of us from BlueHighways TV returned to New Orleans for the first time since the Katrina disaster to attend the annual NCTA cable television convention. I will admit that I was afraid that this wonderful/eccentric city that I used to visit two – three times a year would be nothing like I remembered, in light of the level of destruction and the ongoing difficulties in rebuilding. I am happy to report that the spirit of New Orleans is alive and well, although, of course still struggling to restore many neighborhoods. As a tourist and business visitor I spent most of my time in and around the convention center as well as the French Quarter. Most businesses in these sections are operating normally although staffing at hotels and restaurants is still a challenge because the housing shortage has cut the numbers of available workers. read more >

Family Vacations and other secrets revealed

When I was growing up, a summer vacation to the Black Hills of South Dakota was the last "pile in the car drive someplace new" trip we took as a family. Mom, Dad and three kids, traveled in ‘60s style in a station wagon with the territory of who sat where as regimented as a country church. Dad drove, I sat up front (got car sick anywhere else), Mom took up the middle seat with cooler and reading material (prepared to dispensed food and justice) and the two youngest, Mary Jane and Mark, who were continually warring, were in the back of the station wagon on a pallet of blankets. (This was before the seat belt law.) read more >
