The Sandroids have combined a variety of musical genres like jazz, old time, dawg music, rhumbas, Balkan tunes and bluegrass to create their own sound and style called "tribal jazzgrass". The nearly 100 year old Sheldon Music Hall is often referred to as the Carnegie Hall of St. Louis.

Lily May--the original "banjo-pickin' girl"--led the Coon Creek Girls, the first all-woman stringband on radio. Pioneers among women performers, they played their own instruments and expanded the repertoire of what was considered acceptable material for women. In this portrait, Lily May talks about growing up in the beautiful Red River Gorge in Kentucky, about how her style developed, and about her experiences breaking into show business.
