Tennessee Great Flood of 2010
by Stan Hitchcock

May 2nd, 3rd and 4th Middle, Southern and Western Tennessee suffered catastrophic floods which Weather Service forecasters are calling the 1000 year flood. Nashville and surrounding towns and rural areas were the hardest hit as the Cumberland River rose to cover homes, businesses, farms and historic sites in heart breaking loss and damage. Water covered interstates 24, 65 and 40, plus streets and backroads in places near rivers and covered cars and stranded semi-trucks and travelers that called for dramatic, and heroic rescues, but also swept away some that were not reachable. Homes were destroyed, along with all belongings, of thousands of Tenneseans who had never before needed Flood Insurance, so therefore didn't have any protection as they watched their entire households covered in flash flooding. View From The Front Porch
by Stan Hitchcock
Ah, April and May. Been a beautiful Spring in Tennessee. Sitting here looking out from the front porch of our old farm house to the creek running clear and fast on its way to the Cumberland River about 5 miles down the road here in Sumner County. The water in the Lakes and Rivers has warmed up and the fish are biting so you don't find me on the front porch too much this time of year, I'm usually on the water, somewhere in Tennessee or Kentucky searching for the mighty bass….smallmouth and largemouth. Or, later on in the summer, you can find me in Wisconsin, camping on the banks of the Upper Mississippi, and in hot pursuit of Northern Pike, Walleye and, once again, small and large mouth bass. I just barely make it through Winter, when it's too cold to fish, watching the water temperature as Spring finally arrives and I can get back to the important things in life; fishing and enjoying a good bologna sandwich on fresh white bread while sitting in my boat. I've got two sons, Stan Junior and Scott, that have inherited the love of fishing from me along with a couple of grandsons, Kahner and Josh, so the tradition of the Hitchcock Fishing Adventure will be carried on long after I have gone to the Home of the Great Fisherman in Glory. Meeting In The Air
by Bob Bilyeu, producer of Old Country Church

Bob Bilyeu
February 7, 2010 was, undoubtedly, the most eventful day of Earl Bradford's life. He got up in the morning and went fishing off South Padre Island. After catching a bunch of fish, he went back home to get cleaned up so he and his wife, Oleta, could hear a big gospel singing concert. When the concert was over he went back home, lay down in his bed and died.

When I heard the news the next morning, memories came flooding back. The year was 1950, I was twelve years old and about ready to graduate from the eighth grade. I went to church with Earl who had just married Oleta while she was still in high school. Earl had heard about a talent contest in the next town north and after hearing me sing and try to play a guitar in church, he decided that I should enter. Read More> >

Road Trip – Hot Springs, Arkansas
by Denise Hitcock
Hot Springs

Just to the Southwest of Little Rock, Arkansas sits the Fountain of Youth. That is what Juan Ponce de Leon would have thought had he and not Hernando de Soto soaked in the hot mineral water pools of what is now Hot Springs National Park.

After battling his way across Georgia, Tennessee and half of Arkansas Hernando de Soto entered the "Valley of the Vapors". For the Native Americans it was a common ground of peace where they set aside weapons and all took a hot tub. But Hernando was never one to pass up a prime opportunity and once he had toweled off he claimed the area for Spain in 1541. Read More> >
