With summer approaching, we know how many visitors you are all about to have… and while we love seeing familiar faces here at Mixture, we hope you'll come by and show your out-of-town guests our store too. Maybe they can even pick up a gift from one of our local artists to take back home with them.

And with many of you planning your own trips this summer, we hope you still make time to come down to Mixture and shop local. Plan to come down when you can hit the Mercato (Little Italy's farmer's market on Saturday morning) or a nice dinner one evening. There are still so many of you who haven't met our newest addition… Brogan (some photos at the bottom of this email) He's 6 months old now and he loves meeting new people (that is when his dad is not making him move furniture already!)

Looking forward to seeing you… Our store hours are:
Tuesday through Saturday: 10am – 6pm, Sunday: 12pm – 5pm, Mondays: closed

We are located in the north end of Little Italy at the corner of Kettner Blvd and Ivy at 2210 Kettner. Map >>

Designers have long pulled inspiration from nature. Pierre Paulin designed the Tulip chair in 1965 for Artifort in the Netherlands. He named it the Little Tulip Chair after the shape of the tulip flower. The Little Tulip spreads its simple, half-open petals around the sitter. Its curves are extremely inviting, organic and soft. The Little Tulip is very relaxing and supportive.

Fast-forward to 2009, Paulin drew from the form of a flower once more. In one of his final designs before his passing late last year, Pierre designed The Flower Chair for Magis in Italy. Made of polycarbonate, the chair reflects the beauty of a blooming flower. Like the Little Tulip, the Flower supports the user while being very comfortable.

O.K. so it's 4:05pm and my brother calls me and says, "Hey I have a problem… I have a pack of ribs we were going to have tonight, but is it too late to have them fall-off-the-bone delicious by 6:30 or 7?" I say, Nope, it's not too late… but you're not going to be able to slow cook them they way you're used to, even though its a lot more fun that way.

IN A HURRY RIBS RECIPE
-Preheat grill and Oven to 400 degrees. (you will start them on the grill and finish them in the oven)
-Take ribs and put a dry rub on both sides. Usually what you have already is good…garlic powder, salt, pepper, chili powder, etc.
-Place on the grill for 10 minutes on each side on a medium to high fire watching them closely so they don't burn. Don't move them around too much.
-While they're on the grill add some "wet seasoning." This can be a little Italian dressing, a little mustard, BBQ sauce, 7up (you see where I'm going here). Basically you can clean the fridge of old condiments, but don't go overboard and ruin the sauce. You should have about 1 1/2 cups of liquid per rack of ribs.
-Take a large piece of foil about twice the length of the rack and lay ribs with the "U" shape up. Try not to puncture foil. Pour sauce mostly on top of the ribs, and some around the sides. Wrap foil around ribs tightly so no air can get out. (Think the shape of a long teepee, crimping foil on top.)
-When putting the ribs in the oven, you need to have them resting on something other than the bottom of the pan. If you have an oven rack you can put that on a cookie sheet. This way the ribs are not laying on the pan which will prevent burning them on bottom. If you don't have an oven rack, you can take another long piece of foil and crumple it making a snake-like shape, and lay it on the pan and put the rack of ribs on it. Take enough water to fill the cookie sheet 3/4 full. I actually like this better than using a rack because it helps keep moisture in the oven, and inevitably, there will be a hole in that foil. Trust me!
-Bake for an hour to an hour and a half at 400 degrees. Don't get curious and open them before. They will be delicious.

As usual I love hearing when people tell me they tried a recipe and put their own spin on it. So please come by and share… and by share, I mean your spin on the recipe and maybe even a little of the food too.

Barone Round and Oval Glass Dining Table by Bontempi

(don’t those legs look like ribs to you? Maybe I’m just hungry)

Made in Italy by Bontempi Casa, the Barone Dining Table interprets the dining area in a contemporary spirit and with great representational ability. The crucial aspects of its base and top design find original expression in the geometry of shapes, making Barone take shape from an essential, almost archaic form, but with a refined formal illustration. And since my recipe called for a shortcut, some versions of the Barone table are stocked in the US and are available with a 2-4 week leadtime

-Available in Round or Oval shape
-Base available in chrome, lacquered black, white or dark brown or upholstered in leather (black or borwn with off-white stitching, red with black stitching, ivory with black stitching or white with white stitching)
-Glass top available in transparent extra clear, extra white, patterned white, black, or patterned black.
