John Sayles in Hunstville

Director/Writer John Sayles To Present Master Class at the Flying Monkey Arts Center and Premiere Latest Film, Honeydripper, at the Hollywood 18 in Huntsville, AL.

Award-winning filmmaker John Sayles will present a Master Class on Filmmaking on Friday, Feb. 8 at 1 p.m. at the Flying Monkey Arts Center at Lowe Mill, located at 2211 Seminole Drive, Huntsville. This event is sponsored by the Alabama Filmmakers Co-op. Sayles will highlight his latest film experience, Honeydripper, starring Danny Glover.

Sayles, who wrote, directed and edited, filmed the newly-released movie in Greenville, Georgiana, Anniston, and Midway, Alabama in 2006. The film is also set in 1950 in Harmony, Alabama and based on a short story that Sayles wrote.

Sayles welcomes a diversity of people to his class. Not only are local filmmakers, film students and film fans encouraged to attend the Master Class, but blues musicians, music students and music fans, along with the general public, are also invited to attend. This film also correlates to Black History Month and Sayles' February tour of Alabama cities, with Sayles and producer Maggie Renzi in attendance at each premiere.

The Master Class is free and open to the public. However, location will limit number of people, so arrive early. Teachers may download study guides from honeydripperhuntsville.com to use for Black History Month and to encourage their students to see the film after its release.

Sayles and Renzi will attend the Huntsville premiere of Honeydripper on Feb. 8 at 7 p.m. at the Regal Hollywood 18 on South Memorial Parkway. Tickets are $20 and are available to the public at honeydripperhuntsville.com. This is the only outlet to purchase premiere tickets and they are expected to sell out. However, the film will have a regular theater run at Regal and Carmike theaters in Alabama, beginning Feb. 8 also.

The premiere ticket also includes entrance to the "Honeydripper Blues After Party" to be held at the Flying Monkey Arts Center after the premiere. All premiere attendees are invited to the After Party with the filmmakers in attendance. Local band Microwave Dave and the Nukes will perform with two notable guests who were in the film, the iconic bluesman Eddie Shaw and Alabama blues native Henderson Huggins.
