The 2008 Sidewalk Moving Picture Festival has announced its Call For Entries for feature-length narratives, documentaries and short film entries. Now in its 9th year, Sidewalk Moving Picture Festival has been named one of TIME Magazine's "Film Festivals for the Rest of Us," one of the "Top Ten Film Festival Vacations" by the Ultimate Film Festival Survival Guide and a "Best Kept Secret" by MovieMaker magazine.

Award prizes include:
$1,000 for Best Feature
$1,000 for Best Documentary
$1,000 for Best Short
$500 for Best Animated Film
Kathryn Tucker Windham Storytelling Award
Audience Choice Awards
Alabama Citations of Excellence (ACE Awards)
Handcrafted cast-iron award sculptures designed by resident artists of Birmingham's historic Sloss Furnaces

Submissions must have been completed after January 1, 2006 and must not have been publicly exhibited in the Greater Birmingham Metropolitan Area prior to the 2008 festival dates.

The Sidewalk Moving Picture Festival is set for September 26-28 in downtown Birmingham's historic theatre district and is a project of the Alabama Moving Image Association, Inc., a publicly supported 501(c)(3) non-profit organization created to inspire, encourage and support films and filmmaking in Alabama.

Salon - Tomorrow Night

Sidewalk Salons provide an opportunity for Birmingham's filmmaking community to meet, greet, listen and discuss. Guest speakers and topics provide a focus to each meeting, while the social environment of Rojo gives friends and colleagues a reason to get together monthly to talk about upcoming projects.

If so, then please come to the the March Salon where our focus is networking. This is an excellent time for Scramblers to find teammates!


On the first Tuesday of every month, Rojo owners Laney DeJonge and Clark Lopez open up their side room exclusively for Salon participants! Complimentary snacks are available for all, or you can take advantage of Rojo's diverse menu selections. Don't forget to sample the full selection of beverages available at the bar.
