Mark your calendars for SF Open Studios Private Preview Gala on October 6th. Here's your chance to preview the SF Open Studios Exhibition at SomArts Gallery, featuring more than 400 artworks by different participating artists.

Join ArtSpan volunteers and SF Open Studios artists at Public Glass, 1750 Armstrong Avenue, on Sunday, August 12th from 4pm to 7pm for the August Artist Mixer. Don't miss your chance to sign up for SF Open Studios Participating Artist Membership before the August 30th deadline. Enjoy a potluck, cash bar, the music of "De Vez en Quando," and glass blowing demonstrations.

Premier and Participating Artist Bulletin: The Place to Go to Know Your Arts

All announcements are from 2007 SF Open Studios Artists.


  • d'Arci Bruno's painting Love American Style was chosen Best in Show for the "Breaking Ice" exhibit on the African Diaspora. The painting will be on display July 3rd through 21st at ArtworkSF Gallery, 49 Geary Street at Market Street, 2nd Floor.
  • Stephanie Spanjian will show her work at Crunch, 1000 Van Ness, now through July 23rd, 2007. Public reception: Thursday, July 19th, 5-8pm.
  • Kayla Garelick will present her work in "Patterns Potions and Pieces" at the Frank Bette Center for the Arts in Alameda now through July 28, 2007. For more information on this show and others, visit daydreamingarts.blogspot.com.
  • Roxanne Worthington will present new photography in "Postcards (from the Outside)" at ArtWaves Gallery, 3848 Judah Street, July 21 - August 12, 2007, Thursday & Friday, 4-7pm and Saturday & Sunday, 12-6pm.   • Paul Madonna will present a limited run of 10 folios of his illustrated short story "Out of the Grapevine," as well as several All Over Coffee originals, single panel cartoons, and a limited edition print created for 826 Valencia's 5th anniversary at SF Electric Works, 130 8th Street, San Francisco, July 19 - August 18, 2007, Opening Reception: Thursday, July 19, 7pm.
  • Ari Salomon will present work in a photography group show presented by the SF Arts Commission Gallery with PhotoAlliance, "Our World: From the Document to the Expressive Image" now through September 21, 2007 at City Hall's Ground Floor Gallery, Monday through Friday, 8am to 8pm. The reception will take place on Tuesday, July 31 from 5:30pm to 7:30pm.

  • Call to Artists: ArtAuction 2007, Thursday, September 13, 2007, SomArts Main Gallery, 934 Brannan Street, a Live & Silent Auction will benefit the work of the Coalition on Homelessness. COH seeks donated artwork in all mediums. Participating artists receive free admission to the event and in addition may elect to receive up to 20% of sales value. Donations should be made directly to the COH office located at 468 Turk St (between Hyde and Larkin). Business hours are Mon-Fri 9am thru 5pm (ring buzzer after 2pm). The deadline for submissions is Friday, August 31st. A brief bio and completion of contract is required. Please note this is a juried event. Questions?   • Learn about Encaustic Painting by exploring collage and texture techniques; from layering beeswax medium and collage elements to exploring different techniques in surface development. Sunday, July 22, 2007, 11am-3pm, at the Noonan Building Painting Studios. All tools and materials provided. Feel free to bring along any materials you enjoy working with. This is a multi-dimensional workshop with many examples of encaustics represented from basic techniques to more advanced effects.   • Two studios are available in a 2400 sq. ft. space with high ceilings and a strong and active community of artists in 1890 Bryant Street Studios. The brand new space will have 9 studios, a large gallery/hangout space, a kitchen, and a space for a utility sink.   • The Center for Cultural Innovation will award a $5,000 - $15,000 grant over two years (2007 & 2008) to artists in two categories: 1) Grants for Equipment and Tools and 2) Grants for Presenting and Marketing Work. The deadline is August 3, 2007, January 11, 2008, and June 6, 2008. Download the guidelines and application at www.cciarts.org/funding.
  • Call for art. Entry deadline: July 28, 2007. Ode to the beauty of the "California Wine Country," exhibit from August 25 - September 22, 2007. Aurora Colors Gallery, 145 Kentucky Street, Petaluma, is seeking art indigenous to the area with its vineyards, seascapes, majestic landscapes and the people of the regions throughout Mendocino, Monterey, Napa Valley, Paso Robles, Healdsburg and Russian River, Santa Barbara, Santa Cruz Mountains, Sierra Foothills, and Sonoma Valley - proudly referred to as California's wine country.
