2 Helping ArtSpan: Volunteering, Internship and Donation Challenge

  • ArtSpan seeks an Intern to support the Private Preview Gala and SF Open Studios Exhibition. Download Intern job description here.

  • Every dollar counts. Please, help us reach our challenge. ArtSpan needs to raise $7,500 from individuals to win a one-to-one matching grant from the Miranda Lux Foundation. The $15,000 will support the Art and Literacy Program of Art for City Youth. ArtSpan needs $40 for each of 499 students to provide them with 11 hours of arts education. This matching-dollar challenge runs from September 10 - December 31, 2007. SF Open Studios Opening Parties and Related Events

  • Reaves Gallery presents The Informed Collector, Thursday, October 4th,6:30-8pm (look, listen and mingle). Lecture begins at 7pm, 2344 Market Street (between Noe and Castro). Free to ArtSpan members/$10 non-members. Space is limited, please RSVP to sharon@reavesgallery.com. What kind of collector are you? Understand your personal objectives and learn the right information to consider before your purchase. Compare works at varying price range within similar styles and mediums, discuss alternative venues, and how to protect your collection.
  • Graphic Arts Workshop Demonstration, Saturday, October 6th, 1pm-5pm, 2565 3rd Street at 22nd Street, Room 305. Workshop artists will demonstrate etching, lithograph, monotype and woodcut techniques, as well as setting type on the letterpress.
  • The Artists Alley Mixer to Support ArtSpan, Thursday, October 25th, 6pm-9pm, 348 Gough Street.
  • pARTicipate! The Official SF Open Studios pARTy, Saturday, October 20th, 7pm-midnight. Experience a DJ Dance party and on-site art experiment benefiting ArtSpan. Admission: $10 ($5 for ArtSpan Members).

  • Sunset Artists Group Show, October 1st-16th, Bashful Bull Too, 4600 Taraval at 46th Avenue, open daily 7am-10pm. Don't miss the work of 20 Sunset SF Open Studios Artists on display.
  • Modern Tea will showcase their artwork at the AgeSong Gallery, 580 Hayes Street at Laguna. Opening night party: Thursday, October 4th, 6-9pm. Closing party: Friday, October 26th. Silent Auction throughout the month to benefit the Hayes Valley Neighborhood Parks Group.

Premier and Participating Artist Bulletin: The Place to Go to Know Your Arts

All announcements are from 2007 SF Open Studios Artists.


  • Kellyann Gilson will present her work "Reconstruction" in the juried show ART Soup 13 curated by Matt McKinley, September 25 to December 11th, at Bayshore Film and Stage Studios, 2178 Palou Avenue, SF. Her work will also be presented at Aspect Gallery, 731 Polk Street, SF, September 28th through October 28th.
  • Sandrine Hahn will present her work in the group show Future Light at Five: A Photography exhibit celebrating five years of Future Light Digital Workshops at The Gallery at Calumet Photographic, 2001 Bryant Street, October 1-20. Artist's Opening: Saturday, October 6, 4-6pm. Closing Party: Saturday, October 20, 4-6pm.
  • Tim Baskerville is part of a group show, "Nocturnal Visions" at ArtWorkSF, 49 Geary, through September 22nd.
  • Ari Salomon will present his work from October 16 to November 2 in the 3rd annual IAPP Juried Panoramic Photography Contest and Exhibition, Valley Photo Center, Spring Field, Massachusetts. His work will also be presented in Landscape Revisited: Challenging the Traditional Approach to Landscape, Mendocino Art Gallery, Mendocino, CA from November 3-21.   • Richard Bolingbroke is now being represented by the Paul Mahder Gallery. Grand Opening Party: Thursday, October 4th, 5-8pm, 3378 Sacramento Street. The Paul Mahder Gallery will be showing a selection of his recent watercolors from Rituals and Meditations.
  • Melissa Wagner at Andalu: Benefiting Art for City Youth. Opening Reception: Monday, November 5, 5:30-11pm, Andalu Restaurant, 3198 16th Street at Guerrero. SF Open Studios artist Melissa Wagner will be showcasing her work at Andalu during the month of November. On opening night, Andalu will donate 10% of all revenue to ArtSpan's Art for City Youth Program, a cause chosen by the artist. Drinks will be discounted after 9pm so please stop in and show your support!

  • Call to Action. Call Governor Schwarzenegger at his toll free number 866-579-5982 before September 30, 2007 to voice your stance on affordable health care and share your story. Your call will be answered by a friendly staff person (or an answering machine). Let him know the following: Your name, your town, and your profession. It's very important for you to identify whether you are (1) un-insured, (2) self-employed and paying out-of-pocket for your health care or (3) if your out-of-pocket costs, even with health insurance, are exorbitant.   • SF Open Studios Artists are entitled to deeply discounted ads in the San Francisco Bay Guardian. You may advertise your open studio and/or your December holiday show. Please call 415-487-2500 and mention SF Open Studios.
Workshops Calls for Art
  • Project Art Bridge is seeking Bay Area women artists to collaborate with Iraqi women artists in an effort to promote understanding and inspiration.
  • The Nocturnes has extended the Call for Entries for the themed Night Photography exhibit, "On a Warm San Franciscan Night." Details at www.thenocturnes.com/forms/entryform_sfnight.html.
  • Myths, Masks, Rites & Rituals, October 24 to November 17. Aurora Colors Gallery is seeking visual art associated with fantasy, mythology, rituals, and other roots of the mysterious. Write to events@auraoracolors.com to request the complete prospectus. Deadline: September 29.
  • RayKo Photo Center has developed the Photographer's Marketplace to support the work of Bay Area artists and to encourage the collection of artwork by making it affordable and accessible.
