SF Open Studios 2008: Registration DEADLINES

Don't miss the May 9th Premier Artist Membership deadline to be included in the printed SF Open Studios Guide and to be eligible to participate in the SF Open Studios Exhibition at SomArts Gallery.

Learn about the benefits of Premier Artist Membership ($170, May 9th deadline) and Participating Artist Membership ($135, August 22nd deadline) by clicking here.

Online registration for SF Open Studios 2008 is now available. Click here to register now! First, make a payment, then wait to receive a username and password via e-mail. To ensure that this e-mail reaches you, please add artspan.org to your contact safe list. Then log in to complete the registration forms: personal and studio information, artist statement and upload artwork image.

Click here to download the SF Open Studios 2008 Ad rate sheet and order form. 35,000 copies of the Guide were distributed in the Bay Area and your studio or business can opt to be a distribution point this year!

SF Open Studios 2008 artists can purchase a full-page ad at a discounted rate for $1,030 (regularly $3,000). New this year, artist half page ads for $600 (compared to $1,350)! Ad copy is due June 15th.


3 ArtSpan Member Benefits: Juried Show Opportunities

  • ArtSpan, CCA and Varnish Fine Art Gallery invite 2007 SF Open Studios Artists and ArtSpan Members to submit entries to the upcoming juried exhibition "30 Under 30."
    The deadline has been extended to Friday, April 18, 2008 at midnight.
    Visit the "30 Under 30" registration web site for further information and eligibility requirements.

  • ArtSpan and RayKo Photo Center invite 2007 Open Studios Artists and ArtSpan Members to submit entries for a juried photography exhibition entitled "Something Old, Something New." This exhibition will highlight four artists: two traditional media and two new media.
    Deadline: April 19, 2008
    Exhibition Dates: July 18 - Aug. 28, 2008

Premier and Participating Artist Bulletin: The Place to Go to Know Your Arts

All announcements are from 2007 SF Open Studios Artists.


  • d'Arci Bruno will present her artwork in a solo show now through April 22 at Moby Dick Bar, 4049 18th St., SF. ARTworkSF Gallery, 49 Geary Street, Suite 234, SF will show Bruno's work now through April 26 in "Meta Pop: Popular culture's influence on our world, our lives, and ourselves." Bruno will be featured in "Angels and Birds" at Mezzanine Gallery, Hotel Triton, 342 Grant St., SF now through May 14. Opening Reception: Tuesday, April 22, 5-7pm.
  • Ivy Jacobsen's work is on display in "Seeing Through," a solo exhibition at Hang Art, 556 Sutter Street at Mason, now through April 30, 2008.
  • Paule Dubois Dupuis will present a solo show at Pamela Skinner / Gwenna Howard Contemporary Art, 723 S Street, Sacramento, now through May 6, 2008. Click here to learn more.
  • California Institute of Integral Studies and ArtHouse are proud to present the work of David Trachtenberg's artwork in the Fifth Annual Emerging Artists Exhibition. Opening Reception: Friday, April 18, 7-9pm in the Staff and Faculty Lounge in the CIIS Main Building, 4th Fl. Visit the Exhibition at these two gallery locations: CIIS Main Building, 4th Floor, 1453 Mission Street, SF, between 10th and 11th Streets AND ArtHouse, 1360 Mission Street (by appointment only: 415-552-2183).   • Spring Open Studios in San Francisco SOMA, April 18-20. Sixty artists, including ArtSpan Members: Jana Grover, Mark Harris, Mike Kimball, board member, Melissa Wagner, Alan Mazzetti, Susan Tuttle, David Avery, Art Hazelwood, Bernadette Emrick, Dorian Katz, Joyce Fujiwara, and Beth Ozarow will display an incredible variety of media at six great studio locations, all within two blocks of each other:
    • SOMA Artists Studios - 689 Bryant St.
    • GarageGallery - 655 Bryant St.
    • EastSide Editions - 715 Bryant St.
    • 372 Ritch Studios - 372 Ritch St.
    • 210 Studios - 210 1/2 Clara St.
    • The Clay Studio - 61 Bluxome St.
    Opening Reception: Friday, April 18, 6-9pm, between each venue. Studios will be open Saturday, April 19th and Sunday, April 20th from 11am to 5pm.
  • Carlos Loarca will present "Painting Toward the End of Time: A Path to the Mayan Mysteries 2012," a full scale installation, at SomArts Main Gallery, 934 Brannan Street, now through April 24, 2008. Reception: Thursday, April 3, 5:30-8:00pm.
  • Judi Gorski and Roxanne Worthington present their works at Supervisor Carmen Chu's office, City Hall, Room 260, SF now through April 25th, during office hours, Monday-Friday, 9:30am-5:30pm.
  • Mission Open Studios 2008 will take place Saturday, April 26th and Sunday, April 27th, 11am to 6pm. Three Art Explosion Studios, ActivSpace, 1890 Bryant St. Studios, CellSpace, LiveArt, The Blue Studio, and Workspace Ltd., along with individual artists will open their studios giving an opportunity to view and purchase beautiful, challenging and affordable art. Opening Receptions will take place on Friday, April 25, 7-11pm at the following studios:
    • Art Explosion Studios, 2425 17th St.
    • Art Explosion Studios, 744 Alabama St.
    • Art Explosion Studios, 2345 Harrison St.

  • Fernando Reyes will present his work in "JINGLETOWN," now through April 27 at Pro Arts Gallery, 550 Second Street, Oakland.
  • Roxanne Worthington will present her work as part of the group show "Illumintata" now through April 28, 2008 at Kings Gallery, First Unitarian Universalist Society of San Francisco, 1187 Franklin Street at Geary, SF. Artist Reception: Sunday, April 13, 12:30-3:00pm.
  • Tim Baskerville and Mark Jaremko will present their night photography in "Darkness, Darkness," an exhibit of contemporary American Night Photography, at Three Columns Gallery, Mather House, Harvard University, 10 Cowperthwaite Street, Cambridge, MA, now through April 30, 2008.
  • The sculptors of Islais Creek Studios, 1 Rankin Street, SF, will show their new work and open their welding and blacksmith studios, including work by ArtSpan Members Rebecca Fox and Wolf Thurmeier. Saturday, May 3 and Sunday, May 4, 11am-6pm. Opening Reception: Friday, May 2, 6-9pm.
  • Hunters Point Spring Open Studios, 400 Innes Street, SF, Saturday, May 3 and Sunday, May 4, 11am - 6pm. Over 160 artists' studios will be open for the 17th Annual Spring Open Studios at Hunters Point Shipyard. Pick up the premier issue of the Shipyard ART Guide, the new magazine-style program with full listings and articles about the artists. Preview Parties will be held Friday, May 2 at Gallery 101 in Building 101, where you can view the collective talent of the Shipyard Artists.   • ArtSFest and PARADOX Media are now accepting applications for exhibitor booths and tables - apparel, jewelry, accessories, visual art, sculpture, ceramics, film, music, literature, furniture, and other creative entries are warmly invited to apply to "Mission Bazaar: The Shopping Spectacle." A Creative Gift and Performance Expo at The Armory at 14th and Mission on Saturday, May 17 and Sunday, May 18, 10am - 8pm. Apply here.
  • Deadline: 4.30.08. Central Subway Public Art Program. The San Francisco Arts Commission is seeking applications from professional artists working in all visual arts media for the Central Subway.   • Deadline: 5.30.08. California Fine Art, the juried show of the California State Fair, seeks entries from California artists aged 18+. Entries must be contemporary and completed within 2 years prior to deadline. Over $21,500 in prize money will be awarded. $20 entry fee per artwork.
