Gala Weekend: Studios are not open yet but we invite you to preview the SF Open Studios Exhibition at these events:

  • October 3: Private Preview Gala, SomArts Gallery (a ticketed affair)
  • October 4: Exhibition Opening Reception, SomArts Gallery (a free event)

3 ArtSpan Events in 2009


Mark your calendars for the following ArtSpan events in 2009:

  • Thursday, February 26, 5-8pm: ArtSpan Mixer at Dick Blick Art Materials Store, 1414 Van Ness Avenue. Enjoy complimentary hors d'oeuvres and beverages, product demonstrations, and the company of other artists and ArtSpan staff, board, and committee members. No RSVP required, Evite invitation to be sent shortly. All are welcome. This is a free event.
  • Saturday, March 14: ArtSpan Benefit Art Show & Auction at SomArts Bay Gallery, 934 Brannan Street. Tickets will be available online and via the ArtSpan office.

  • Bernadette Frank's artwork, Orange-Violet, Polychrome Series, is published in Studio Visit Magazine, Volume 3, a new fine art publication produced by The Open Studios Press, publisher of the critically acclaimed periodical, New American Paintings.   • Cynthia Tom was featured on Channel 7's "Profiles of Excellence."
  • Ruth Spencer will show her felted and knitted scarves and neckpieces at her studio, 2547 8th St., #24B (the Sawtooth Bldg.) between Parker and Dwight, Berkeley on 12/20-21, 11am-6pm. Visit wwww.berkeleyartisans.com.
  • Ivy Jacobsen will show her artwork now thorugh 12/30 in "Hueliday," a color-filled group exhibition at Hang Art Annex, 567 Sutter Street. 50 of her etchings with mixed media will be available at the Fort Mason Printmakers Print Sale, Fort Mason Art Center, Bldg. B, #205 & 208.
  • 40 artists from Hunters Point Shipyard show their artwork in the 2nd Annual Holiday Show now through 12/24 at 580 Hayes Street near Laguna. Gallery hours: Wednesday-Sunday, 12pm to 7pm.
  • Marc Ellen Hamel's original monotypes, large abstract oils, and framed limited edition prints are featured at Echo Furniture, 3769 24th St., through December.
  • Emily Clawson will show her artwork at the University Club, 800 Powell St. now through December. Questions about art purchasing, call 415-793-5374.
  • Schnetzler Photography will show artwork in a group show at The Historic Monadnock Building, 685 Market St. now until 1/1/09.

  • Bay Printmakers will present a group exhibit of original prints from over 20 artists now to 1/2/09 at Falkirk Cultural Center, 1408 Mission St., San Rafael.
  • Ari Salomon will present his new panoramic cityscapes from Japan in SF MOMA's Artists Gallery at Fort Mason, 2/4/09-3/13/09. Reception: 2/4/09, 5:30pm-7:30pm.

  • Bill Graham Bash: The Funky Meters featuring Cyril Neville, the Marcia Ball Band and the San Francisco Mime Troupe will headline Bill's Birthday Bash on 1/10/09 at the Fillmore, an event to celebrate the life and legacy of San Francisco concert impresario Bill Graham. The event will be presented by the Bill Graham Memorial Foundation, which last week awarded close to $200,000 in funding to its grant recipients for 2009, including local community arts programs such as ArtSpan, Guitars Not Guns and Rock Med.
