SF Open Studios 2008 Guide Cover
Tour des Artistes

Join ArtSpan at our inaugural VIP tour of artist studios on Sunday, June 7, 10:30am to 3:30pm; visit artist studios in style!

The tour will start with coffee & pastries at the Coffee Bar; followed by a Brunch-Around tour of several working artist studios by limo bus lead by Michael Yochum and Doniece Sandoval. Refreshments will be provided along the way.

The series of tours will raise funds for the Art for City Youth program. Currently all of the funding for art education in two underserved, SF elementary schools is provided by ArtSpan and SF Open Studio artists. View the photo gallery to the right for examples of students' artwork.

2 2009 SF Open Studios Participating Artist Membership

While the deadline for the Premier Artist Membership has passed (May 8 deadline), there's still time to participate in SF Open Studios as a Participating Artist Member (August 21 deadline, $125).

Click here for a complete list of Participating Artist Membership benefits and to learn more about artist eligibility (please note that while Participating Artist Members are list in the Online Guide and in the SF Bay Guardian Maps, their studio info is not included in the PRINTED Guide and they are not eligible to be in the SF Open Studios Exhibition).

  • Crossroads: A Group Exhibit of Hunters Point Shipyard Artists" will be showing at Art94124 Gallery, 3rd and Fairfax streets, Closing Party, 5/15, 6-9pm.
  • Mirang Wonne exhibits her triptych, diptych and installation work in "Diverse Impressions: Bay Area Abstraction" at Triton Museum of Art, 1505 Warburton Ave., Santa Clara, now to 5/17.
  • Sona Holman is part of two group shows: Six Modernists at Chroma Art Design, 218 Mississippi St. Artist Reception: 3/26, 5-8pm. Falkirk's 2009 Bay Area Juried Show, Falkirk Cultural Center, 1408 Mission Ave., San Rafael, 5/27-30. Opening Reception: 5/27, 5:30-7:30pm.
  • Renee Eaton is showing her artwork in "Five Decades of Women's Art" sponsored by the Marin Arts Council at the Marin Civic Center Galleries, 1st and 3rd floors, 3501 Civic Center Drive, San Rafael, now to 5/29, curated by Jennifer Almodova.
  • Mike Kimball and Stephen C. Wagner will present their artwork in "People, Places, & Things: depictions of contemporary life in the city" at the North of Market/Tenderloin Community Benefit District Center, 134 Golden Ate Ave., Suite A. Artist Reception: 5/29, 7-9pm.
  • Kathryn Arnold's artwork will be presented in "Passages" at the Pyramid Center, Transamerica #2, 505 Sansome, curated by Casey and Associates, 415.834.2394.   • Charley Paff's artwork is included in the juried Arts on Fire show at Pacifica's Sanchez Art Center, 1220 Linda Mar Blvd., Pacifica now through 5/30 . He will also show is work in his open studio at 5514 Doyle St. Emeryville, 6/6 & 14, 11am-6pm. June 13 he will participate in Live Oak Artists Open House at 1301 Walnut St., Berkeley.
  • Ivy Jacobsen presents her new paintings in a group show now through 5/30 at Secessions Art & Design, 3361 Mission.
  • Lynn Rubenzer created an installation in the window at 826 Valencia, up now through June 2009.
  • "Repetition" exhibition at Creativity Explored, 3245 16th Street, now to 6/17.

  • Roxanne Worthington offers photo-based, hands-on classes at Last Avenue Studio. Located near Ocean Beach, LAS is pleased to offer a 20% discount on any class taken through the end of the summer to registered SF Open Studios artists.
  • Bayview Opera House is seeking artists to participate in SF Open Studios 2009, Weekend 3, October 24 & 25. Indoor and outdoor space is available for rent, subject to an approval process. 5 artists will be awarded with grants to cover SF Open Studios registration fees. The awardees will also receive booth space at the Bayview Opera House during SF Open Studios ($100 value) and will receive 100 group site postcards for distribution. Artists must reside in the 94124 or 94134 area codes of SF, demonstrate financial need, provide visual portfolio by CD or photo album (no slides), all art must be Fine Art (painting, printmaking, drawing, sculpture, installation, photography, or fine crafts such as jewelry, textiles, ceramics).   • California Modern Gallery, 1035 Market St. is seeking approximately 10 artists to show their artwork during SF Open Studios 2009 (Weekend 3: October 24 & 25). Artists of all mediums are welcome.   • 340 Bryant Street Studios has beautiful studio spaces in a historic SOMA warehouse available now in a variety of sizes and prices, all with high ceilings, new wall construction with locking doors, 24 hour access with freight elevator and loading dock.   • Seed 2 Tree, 1610 Francisco Blvd., Pacifica, is a new innovative yoga studio only a short drive outside of San Francisco. The studio specializes in small classes, private clients, and in-house sessions and is also seeking artwork from local artists to adorn its walls.
