Over 250 artists will open their studios this weekend in Bernal Heights, Castro, Duboce, Eureka Valley, Glen Park, Mission, Noe Valley, and Portola, from 11am to 6pm!

Download the Weekend 1 map or peruse the Online Guide by visiting artspan.org; enter an artist's name, location, weekend, neighborhood, style, or medium in the FIND ART(ists) search box. Studio listings and the corresponding map can also be found in this week's SF Bay Guardian.

SF Open Studios Artist Preview Parties

Get a sneak peak of these artists' work before they open their studios to the public during their SF Open Studios weekend! RSVP is required only if indicated.

Weekend 1:

Weekend 2: Friday, 10/16
  • Fort Mason Center, Bldg. D, Fleet Room, 6-9pm, featuring over 53 artists, including artists from The Nocturnes, Bay Printmakers, Visual Offerings, 4x4 Collective, Fort Mason Five and many many more! RSVP to rachel@fortmason.org.

  • Support the art community at Hunters Point Shipyard in an Annual Benefit Auction taking place during the last weekend of SF Open Studios, 10/31 and 11/1, 5-7pm, or participate in proxy bidding throughout the weekend for the chance to take home artwork by SF Open Studios 2009 Shipyard Artists. Also, new this year, is a raffle. The event supports Shipyard Trust for the Arts, a non-profit arts organization dedicated to conserving affordable art, creating arts exhibition and education programs, and supporting arts programs in the surrounding community.

Premier and Participating Artist Bulletin: The Place to Go to Know Your Arts



All announcements are from registered 2009 SF Open Studios Artists.
  • Fong Fai has a piece of artwork in the magazine "Better Homes and Gardens" in the October 2009 issue under the designer Patrice Bevans' indoors Life at Home on page 39 & 42, with buying info on page 272.
  • Mike Kimball is showing his works at the following exhibitions: Sun Gallery, 1015 E St., Hayward, now until 10/17; City Arts Gallery, 828 Valencia, SF, now until 10/31; Autobody Fine Art Gallery, 1517 High St., Alameda, now until 10/25; Sanchez Art Center, 1220 Linda Mar Blvd., Pacifica, 10/30-12/5.
  • Sevilla Granger's piece entitled "Larger and..." has been granted the "Florence Ferrario Award" from the Northern California Arts Association, and has been selected for the 54th annual international juried exhibition "Bold Expressions" at the Sacramento Fine Arts Center until 10/24. Four of her pieces are hanging in the store front windows of EZDG Design Group, 1246 18th St. She is completing a large commission for RCD Architects which will be featured in the community center of Shinsei Gardens, their new housing development in Alameda.
  • Marc Ellen Hamel's work is exhibited at Barton Art Gallery, 1732 I Street, Sacramento now through 10/6. She is part of a group show "Going North" by Nordic 5 Arts at Eddie Rhodes Gallery, Contra Costa College, 2600 Mission Bell Dr., San Pablo, CA, now to 10/30. Her abstract oil paintings will be included in "Color on the Wall" at Nomad Rugs, 3775 24th St. now to 10/15.
  • Karl Roeseler is part of a group show at the SF Convention and Visitors Bureau, featuring 6 figurative paintings from his "Black & White Paintings" series, now until 12/11. His work is also exhibited in the upstairs dining loft of Tokyo Go Go.

  • The Nocturnes are accepting registrations for their annual Death Valley workshop with Tim Baskerville. 3 nights, 10/30 to 11/1. Pre-registration is required no later than 9/25. More info here.
  • The Nocturnes announce a new course "The Advanced Digital Nocturne" taught by Tim Baskerville and Mark Jaremko to be held at Fort Mason, 9/26. More info here.
Calls for Entry
  • Deadline: 10/25/09. SCRAP is seeking artists to submit works for consideration for its Third Annual Art Exhibition, ReVisions: New Creations from Scrap. Work submitted must be in some way made from scraps, leftovers, castoffs, found, repurposed, or recycled materials. Visit scrap-sf.org for more info.
  • WE Artspace, 768 40th St., Oakland is organizing an art/craft show/fair for the 2009 Holiday season. Contact info@weartspace.com for more info.
  • Deadline: 10/18/09. Access Institute for Psychological Services invites artists to contribute their work to Spectrum, Access's annual art auction fundraiser that will be held on 10/18 at Mezzanine in SF. Access is a SF-based non-profit that delivers affordable mental health serves to the local community. Contact Julie Henderson, Spectrum's art curator, with an image of your artwork at juliehenderson317@gmail.com.
  • Deadline: 10/22/09. The Nocturnes are now accepting submission to the latest online show " The Panocturnists" featuring Panoramic Night Photography, curated by Tim Baskerville and juried by Chris Faust.
  • Deadline: 11/6/09. The Creative Work Fund invites letters of inquiry for projects in which artists and nonprofit organizations collaborate to create new works. Grants range from $10,000 to $40,000. In 2010, projects featuring visual artists or performing artists are eligible to apply. More info at creativeworkfund.org.
