MEMBER NOTES |
Dear Better World folks,
I unfortunately needed to call you folks for roadside assistance a month or so ago. I was apprehensive as it was my first time to request service... I was told that someone would be there within an hour or so. I was still apprehensive
but to my delight my help arrived in about one-half hour! My tire was changed in just minutes and the service rep insisted on leading me to the nearest service station to fill up my spare tire for me. He even used his own 50 cents for
the air!
I don't know why I was surprised -- but I think that when anyone changes tracks they anticipate a bump in the road. I just wanted you to know that the road was smooth.

New York Times: Cars Flatten S.U.V.'s---in Safety
The New York Times reported in August that the gap in safety between sport utility vehicles and passenger cars last year was the widest yet recorded, based on new traffic data.
People driving or riding in a sport utility vehicle in 2003 were nearly 11 percent more likely to die in an accident than people in cars, the figures show. The government began keeping detailed statistics on the safety of vehicle
categories in 1994.

Internet Access for Travelers: Tired Drivers to Get Wired
We want to provide information to our members about where to find free Internet access while traveling. For example, there's the Needles Route 66 Café located off I-40 in Needles, California near the
Colorado River and the Arizona border. Check it out at:
www.needlescafe.com
Meanwhile, the Texas Department of Transportation is installing free wireless Internet access points at all of the state's 84 highway rest areas.
"We think this is a huge win for travelers," said Andy Keith, who oversees the rest areas for the department. "Knowing free Internet access is available at all of our rest areas will get drivers to make regular stops."
Transportation planners hope that Internet access will encourage more drivers to pull off the road at intervals that reduce the risk of fatigue and falling asleep at the wheel. When was the last time you heard about someone falling asleep
at their computer? |
