Frustrated with Your Socially-Irresponsible Business? Do what AAA Employees Do: Join BWC
When AAA sends out its next round of expiration notices, at least one will be addressed to a member of its own staff. This staff member has joined Better World Club. We understand. Just think what life
would be like, working at AAA:
-
At the water cooler: "Hey Jim, why the long face?" "Oh, Bob, what's the point of opposing bike paths? I drove the Hummer in this morning and didn't run one cyclist off the road." "Oh, brighten up, Mr. Negative. You've still got the ride
home."

May of 2006 AAA had advertised as

on searches for the same phrase. And while AAA does continue to advertise on Yahoo searches of
better world auto club. the title of their advert is now
AAA Official Site. Thanks to all of the people who contacted AAA in regards to their advertising practices.

Follow Up to Last Months Survey:
As New Campaign Prepares for Launch, Better World Club Members Closely Divided on Tagline, Logo
Information Very Useful: BWC Intends to Keep Process Open so People Can Choose What They Want
As Better World Club prepares to announce the MPG figure that will get America off of imported gasoline, we have received important information from our members. Nearly 1,000 of you participated in last month's survey.
In the two most critical questions, the results were close. "Green Is The New Red, White, And Blue" narrowly edged out "Driving America to Energy Independence" by 35%-33%. Meanwhile Logo D edged out logo A by 30%-20%. The closeness of
these results is informative and re-enforce our desire to try to keep this process open, accepting and posting the comments people have about the campaign, enabling people to design their own bumper stickers, etc. We're working on it.
In other results: 75% of you knew that the current fuel economy average for the entire U.S. fleet is closely to 20 mpg. 38% of you said that the new fleet average would have to be close to 40 mpg, which is incorrect. We will be
announcing the correct figure next month.
Only 30% of you knew that the Bush Administration increased CAFE standards by a whopping 2 mpg (1.8 mpg to be exact). Finally, you chose as the appropriate respond to the news that Brazil is going to be energy independent by year-end,
"U.S. cars are so big, can ethanol be made out of NutraSweet?" over "Who can compete with Brazil and all its Nobel Scientists?" by 42%-29%.

Better World Club Partners with Animal Protection Institute
My Dog Is Cool! Campaign Designed to Prevent Accidents
Better World Club recognizes that animal safety is important business, and this month we highlight
Animal Protection Institute and their
My Dog is Cool! campaign
Most people are aware that, every year, children die after being left inside cars in hot weather. Fewer know that countless dogs die similar, terrible deaths, because such incidents are rarely reported to authorities.
The combination of warm weather and a closed car can literally be a killer for dogs. Even leaving a dog for "just a minute" to run errands can lead to tragic consequences. Every year, dogs suffer and die after being left inside cars during
the summertime heat. These tragic deaths are entirely preventable.
'
'My Dog is Cool!" is designed to educate people about the dangers hot weather poses to dogs. The campaign will spread the word to the public, auto manufacturers, shopping malls, police departments and animal control departments
nationwide. It is a campaign of the Animal Protection Institute (API), a national nonprofit 501(c)(3) advocacy organization.

GAO: Voluntary Programs to Cut Air Pollution Don't Work
Administration Sees Attractive Precedent: Voluntary Taxes Anyone?
The Bush administration's voluntary programs to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by industry have yet to deliver promised results, according to a report issued yesterday by the Government Accountability
Office.
The 51-page report, which was requested by Sens. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and John F. Kerry (D-Mass.), highlights shortcomings in two projects aimed at encouraging the private sector to cut emissions linked to global warming. The
Environmental Protection Agency sponsors "Climate Leaders," while the Energy Department oversees "Climate VISION."

House Again Votes to Drill in Arctic Refuge
Better World Club Members Defeated This Once; How Many Times Do You Need To Do This?
WASHINGTON - Citing the public outcry over $3-a-gallon gasoline and America's heavy reliance on foreign oil, the House voted Thursday to open part of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska to oil
drilling, knowing the prospects for Senate approval were slim.
Drilling proponents contend that the refuge on Alaska's North Slope would provide 1 million barrels a day of additional domestic oil at peak production and reduce the need for imports.
But opponents to developing what environmentalists argue is a pristine area where drilling will harm caribou, polar bears and migratory birds...
