"Of Course We Have Room for the Bedroom Set, Honey! We Can Just Tie It To The Roof"
Whoa, There Einstein: The Roof Is A Bad Place To Pack Items On Road Trips
Packing suitcases, boxes, and dead Aunts (ŕ la National Lampoon's Vacation) on your roof are a surefire way to increase drag and decrease your fuel efficiency. Be proactive. When shopping for a
new car, there are several things you can look for that will help you avoid storing items on your car roof:
- Get a big trunk. The more junk in your trunk, the less you'll have to strap on the roof.
- How about a wagon? Many people poo-poo station wagons, but there are a lot of great models out there. Also, they're a great SUV substitute for people who claim to need them for hauling their children around.
- Look for a car with fold-down seats. This option greatly enhances interior storage capacity.

Will Last Week's Positive Supreme Court Decision Ultimately Lead To an Ironic Result?
Justice Kennedy Thwarts the Gutting of Environmental Law for 2nd Time This Term
High Court Faults EPA Inaction on Emissions
With the Supreme Court ruling that the Environmental Protection Agency must consider regulations of greenhouse gas emissions, the stage is now set for a bigger environmental decision regarding global warming. But now
Better World Club wonders: will this positive decision of the Court ultimately have an ironic impact on these state efforts?
Given the EPA's failure to take a strong stand on the issue, BWC has been working in support of state efforts to regulate auto greenhouse gas emissions.
Complete Story.

All Participants Will Win A Date With Daryl Hannah*
On June 10, 2007, the Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition (LACBC) will sponsor the 7th annual Los Angeles River Ride, an event to help build a better, more bikeable LA County. The event will feature four different rides, as
well as a celebrity host, live music, gourmet BBQ, prizes, and exclusive T-Shirts from American Apparel. Rides will follow routes along the Los Angeles River from Griffith Park to Long Beach and will accommodate riders of any age.
Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition is the only non-profit organization representing the over 3 million bicyclists in LA County, working county-wide to improve conditions for bicyclists while building community life in the area.
Participation in the River Ride makes a significant contribution to LACBC's efforts to complete the LA River Bikeway from the San Fernando Valley to Long Beach, and to make bicycling safe and enjoyable for everyone.
Register before May 15 and save $5.00 on your registration fee. Or, join the LACBC and save $20.00!
[*This, of course, is not true. However, Daryl Hannah will be there, and who knows? Perhaps your athleticism and snazzy bicycle helmet will impress her. We've seen you on a bike, though, so we doubt it.] |
