PIP Printing

Like so many businesses on El Cajon Boulevard, PIP Printing is a family-run operation. Jay Levine, the owner of PIP Printing on El Cajon Boulevard, started working at PIP when his parents owned the business. The Levine family moved to San Diego from Chicago in 1971 and Jay's parents bought into the PIP Printing franchise. During the height of the franchise's success there were over 1,600 locations throughout the United States, and 22 of those were in San Diego County. Though their location on the Boulevard is the last remaining in San Diego, Jay still believes that the assistance and name recognition that the PIP Printing franchise has offered his business has proven a good investment.

Jay left PIP to attend college, where he studied business with plans to pursue a career in corporate America. Although he thrived in that environment, in the long run he believes that he is better suited to run his own business. When his parents encouraged him to move home to relieve his father, Jay followed through and PIP has been a growing business ever since. As a business owner, Jay revels in the success of his efforts, which are directly related to the hard work he has invested in the company.

Upon his return to the family business, the neighborhood had changed quite dramatically. There had been a tremendous cultural shift. Immigrants groups from all over the world were settled in City Heights. The economic environment also radically declined. Due to competition from new development in outlying suburbs , El Cajon Boulevard developed problems consistent with older urban neighborhoods throughout the country. It is this eclectic nature of the community that has kept Jay grounded here. It is also what encourages him to take on the challenges of redirecting investment back into the area. Based on this and a desire to give back to the neighborhood that has always supported him, Jay began attending meetings at the El Cajon Boulevard Business Improvement Association. He has played an active role with the group for over 20 years.

What distinguishes PIP Printing from their competitors is that most printing business may have similar machines, but what PIP has is expertise. Jay helps his clients with their overall marketing approach and helps develop cost effective ways of advertising. Just like any good business, the focus is on customer service and meeting the needs of the client. Although a majority of PIP's clients are scattered throughout the west coast, Jay admits that the more fulfilling part of his work comes from serving the diverse local ethnic community. He perceives them as people who truly appreciate the opportunity that this country offers, and they embody the same entrepreneurial spirit that made this country great. In return for all their good, hard work, Jay often provides more than his simply his printing services. As Jay stated," PIP Printing isn't in the social services business, but if he can help people, he will."

Yelp About the Boulevard

Sang Dao

Yelper: OMG! This place is so good. I have been looking for a good Thai spot in San Diego for a while and I found it!!!! Not to mention that they serve Lao/Thai? How awesome is that? We ordered the yellow curry with chicken, red curry with beef, pad sewe with chicken, tom kha soup, and sticky rice. Everything was great. I remember leaving satisfied and falling into a food coma once I got in the car. Every time I have a Thai/Lao craving this is where I'm going to go.
