Susan Tieger

"My deepest longing is for a world that values peace, social justice, equality, and a sustainable environment. Over the years I've been involved with progressive politics, women's issues, social and community activism, rainforest preservation and environmental issues. After being involved with the WMN for the last few months, I am so grateful to have come upon this wonderful group of women whose vision and purpose I respect and feel so aligned with."

Susan has been a psychotherapist in private practice for the past thirty years and appreciates the privilege of accompanying people through their healing process. She uses EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) extensively in her work. EMDR is a method of therapy which is very effective for healing trauma, releasing emotional blocks and negative beliefs systems; optimizing creativity and performance. Susan works with a team of people in the San Francisco Bay Area that help train therapists in EMDR. She is also a consultant to therapists who want to enhance their skills

At times she volunteers with the EMDR Humanitarian Assistance Program, a global network of clinicians who volunteer their services throughout the world where there is a need to help people relieve suffering and prevent the after-effects of trauma from disaster and violence. Most recently she volunteered with a team of people who were asked by the Department of Defense to offer training to mental health workers in the military who were working with people coming back from Iraq. She hopes this remarkable healing work will continue to be available to people in need.

She is grateful for her connection with Buddhism and the Vipassana meditation practice which has been very meaningful in her life. Her love of beauty and her background in the arts now gets satisfied by making jewelry, planting flowers and soaking in the beauty that is so accessible in the San Francisco Bay Area, where she lives with her longtime partner. Susan also enjoys a close relationship with her son who lives nearby in Berkeley.
