September Events and Exhibitions
Hello all,
So much for a sleepy August.
In the office we've been in overdrive getting ready for
our first competition in three years. (Faculty and student groups: To get a sneak preview of the specific briefs to prepare for your studios, see below.) Our
chapters are rocking it as per usual. We're hard at work raising funds for the
Peru Reconstruction Appeal, and we have
job and volunteer opportunities in the office and in South Africa.
Finally I want to clear up a couple of rumors. Three Yes's and one No;
YES: We are are moving HQ into San Francisco next month and have desk space for those who are looking ($650 per desk all inc.).
YES: Siyathemba is breaking ground this fall and we are looking for a construction supervisor. (see Job Opportunities)
NO: I am not a candidate for Dean at Tulane School of Architecture nor am I seeking a position there.
YES: We will be appearing on
Wired Science, a new show airing in October on public TV in the US.
Hope you've had a great summer and are chomping at the bit for a competition that not only challenges the mind, restores the soul and ignites your desire to design like you give a damn.
Cheers,
Cameron Sinclair

The AMD Open Architecture Challenge
On September 12th, AMD and Architecture for Humanity will launch the
AMD Open Architecture Challenge. Architects, designers, students and others are invited to participate in an international, open design competition to help bring connectivity and computing power to communities in need.
Faculty and student groups: If you are interested in participating in the challenge as a studio,
contact us. We will send you a draft of the brief so that you can prepare your studio. Studios and organized student groups will recieve group rates to enter the competition.
We recieved 115 RFPs from community groups in 35 countries to partner on the Challenge. A huge thanks to
the cross-disciplinary panel of 40 reviewers, including professionals from the fields of design, technology, environmental science and international development for helping us read and review each proposal. After a month of intense

Peru Reconstruction Appeal
As a follow-up to the Peru Reconstruction Appeal we launched last month, $1000 has been raised since the earthquake leveled the town of Pisco. We need to raise approximately $10,000 and will be directing funds for a partnership project
with a local Peruvian architectural and engineering team based in Lima. We'll update you with more on this effort, as it evolves. To support the rebuilding effort,
donate now.
