Happy 5th Birthday, ReStore!

In September 1992, the first Habitat for Humanity ReStore in the U.S. opened in Austin, Texas. Today, with approximately 500 stores in three countries and growing, ReStores sell everything from household items to furniture to building materials.

Champaign County's ReStore opened May 2003, run almost entirely by volunteers. "ReStore wouldn't have made it even five months without volunteers, let alone five years. In March alone community members logged 657 hours receiving and preparing goods for sale, doing pick-ups and deliveries, calling area businesses for donations and staying on top of the dust bunnies," said Patti Darr, Manager.

All proceeds from sales at the ReStore support our mission to build community and relationships through the construction of new homes with qualified, low-income families. "Reaching our 5th anniversary is a testament to the need in our community for these goods as well as the fun to be had in building relationships and community through this kind of service," said Marcus Roll, Manager.

The ReStore will be honored by the Cunningham Children's Home on May 9 at their Business Appreciation Celebration and Brunch. "Everyone at Habitat loves working with Cunningham's students and clients," said Eileen Gebbie, Executive Director. "It's a store, but it's also an opportunity for giving and transformation."

ReStore will celebrate its 5th Anniversary with a month-long, store-wide graduated sale:

10% off May 2 and 3
15% off May 9 and 10
25% off May 16 and 17
30% off May 23 and 24
50% off May 30 and 31

THANK YOU, CHAMPAIGN COUNTY!

Volunteering at the ReStore

How "You Built It!"

This year you have accomplished miracles for four new home-owning families through...

H: Hard work in the Restore, on the build site, on committees, gift wrapping, donations.
A: Your attitude of caring that spreads through the community and encourages others to give.
B: Building relationships with our community, working with other volunteers, home owners and community members.
I: Ideals and values shared, demonstrating God's love and your belief that it is more blessed to give than to receive.
T: Time. Together you donated more than 20,000 of your hours.
A: Assembling for a common purpose, becoming part of something greater.
T: Teaching others the skills you posses, so they in turn can teach others and multiply your gifts.

You Helped Build It! Volunteer Appreciation EventThank you to all of our friends and supporters who attended the You Built It! Volunteer Appreciation Party. Thank you for allowing us to celebrate you. Special congratulations and thanks to awardees Margie Delheimer (Jill of All Trades), Linda Randall (Community Connections), Carolyn Rice (Community Connections) and introducing the George Kieffer: Living the Spirit of Habitat for Humanity Award, given this inaugural year to...George Kieffer.

Our volunteers are kindergarten students from King Elementary and 80-year-old (so-called) retirees. Each of you have shared your unique talents and shaped our community. We are honored by your partnership with Habitat.
