Women Will Build in May

The Women Build Homes committee is very pleased to announce the schedule for their home build partnership with the Corona family at 114 N Cottage Grove. Although we're only half-way through raising the funds, our faith has been fueled by your generosity and we're making the leap.

The ground breaking will be on Sunday, May 11 at 2pm (Mother's Day). As this will be our affiliate's 50th house, you should expect some extra festivities and fun.

To see the build schedule and register to help, click here.

To make a donation (we only need 1,000 donations of $30 each), click here or call our donation hot line (sponsored by Champaign Telephone) at 217/531-3535.

United Rentals helps Women Build Homes

On March 28th, 2008, United Rentals will be having a customer appreciation day complete with lunch (11 am - 2pm) and sales on equipment and supplies.

United Rentals (3501 N. Countryview Rd., Urbana 351-5820) will encourage shoppers that day to join them in making a donation to the Women Build Homes partnership with the Maricela Corona family.

Thank you, United Rentals, for helping to build community and relationships through new construction with low-income families!

Update on Thrivent Builds Homes 2008

Thrivent Builds Homes 2008In the coming months, watch the 1300 block of North Carver as we begin to deconstruct and demolish the old Frances Nelson Health Center. We are very grateful for the donation of that property and the opportunity it affords us to build two new homes.

In the coming month we will announce the names of at least one of the two families partnering with Thrivent and the community. As you know, each family earns their home through 250-500 hours of sweat equity and a subsidized, 0% mortgage.

Habitat homes cost up to $95,000 to build depending on the land under development. Our affiliate raises $64,500 for each home and covers any expense in excess with the principal payments ($75 - $250 per home owner each month depending on the age of the home) of established home owners. Donor investment in the homes is protected from "flipping" with a 10-year profit-sharing clause and our administrative costs are covered by the ReStore. Donations made to home builds go directly to the cost of constructing a home.

To date, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans has committed $114,000 to the build. Our affiliate has raised just shy of $30,000. Area Lutheran congregations and friends have already raised $5,000. This leaves just $23,000 left to go. Thank you all from Sable and the rest of Habitat's Board and staff!
