Thank you, story tellers!

As adults, it is easy to forget the simple joy of listening to a story. What a treat, then, to hear stories of home and hearth shared by generous, talented professionals.

Last Sunday, Kathe Brinkmann, Kim Sheahan, Camille Born, Lin Randall and Elizabeth Simpson gave a concert to benefit the Women Build Homes partnership with the Maricela Corona Family, raising $600 in two renewing hours.

Thank you, too, to Ceka Cuk and Pekara Bakery for pastries, Keller Williams for ice cream, and Grace Community Church for sharing their faith home.

Each clinic is being offered twice:

Clinic 1: Painting and Trim

b) Saturday, April 5 at 10am
c) Tuesday, March 25 at 6pm

Clinic 2: Tools and Framing
a) Tuesday, March 11 at 6pm
b) Saturday, April 12 at 10am

Clinic 3: Siding and Roofing

Whether you plan to help on the Women Build (with the Corona family at 114 N Cottage Grove in Urbana) or simply want to learn new skills, we hope you will come. Each clinic is free and open to the public but space is limited, so register with Ellen Willcox (359-0507 x11 or house@cuhabitat.org). Donations to the home build are welcome.

Additional clinics will be scheduled if enough interest is expressed.

United Rentals helps Women Build Homes

On March 28th, 2008, United Rentals will be having a customer appreciation day complete with lunch (11 am - 2pm) and sales on equipment and supplies.

United Rentals (3501 N. Countryview Rd., Urbana 351-5820) will encourage shoppers that day to join them in making a donation to the Women Build Homes partnership with the Maricela Corona family.

Thank you, United Rentals, for helping to build community and relationships through new construction with low-income families!

Money Smart Week will be held April 5 - 12, 2008. For the first time, Champaign County, IL will participate as hundreds of banks, financial institutions, schools, non-profit organizations and government agencies are joining together to provide a week of classes and events aimed at helping consumers make informed choices when managing their personal finances. Roughly 60 free educational classes will take place in Champaign County and several hundreds more are scheduled around the state. The events focus on financial topics for people of all ages and walks of life.

Money Smart Week began as a coordinated effort of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago and the Money Smart Advisory Council – a diverse group of more than 40 Chicago-area organizations working together to promote personal financial literacy. Members agreed to share resources and ideas to achieve greater public awareness of the programs and services available to consumers. The result was Money Smart Week. The effort would showcase different programs, help consumers get information, bring together different organizations many for the first time and help these organizations share expertise and leverage limited resources.
