Hi !

February is the month we celebrate love. We often seize this time as an opportunity to send Valentine's, to let loved ones know how much we care about them, to bring flowers and chocolates to our beloved.

Let's all look at this month as a chance to practice the best ways that we can first show love and affection to ourselves.

You can't always control the circumstances that life throws your way, but you can control how well you take care of yourself. Taking proper care of your body, soul and mind can keep you in optimum shape for handling stress.

The following are some important basic self care strategies that can keep you functioning well and ready for life's challenges.

1. Take Time for Self-Care
This can include your daily Reiki self-treatment, journaling, meditation or simply taking a bubble bath. Schedule a massage or hair appointment. Organize your closet or start a creative project you've been wanting to do. When your cup is full, you bring infinite resources to the service to others.

2. Get Enough Sleep
Sleep is very important for your emotional and physical well-being. Once a week head for bed right after dinner. Read something uplifting, journal, or listen to soothing music. Give yourself a Reiki self-treatment. Try ear plugs. The sound of silence is amazingly restorative. When you get drowsy, turn off the light and snuggle in.

2. Maintain Proper Nutrition
Many people aren't aware of this, but a poor diet can actually make you more vulnerable to stress. Nutritious food may seem costly day to day, however the savings in your future health care costs will save you thousands more.

3. Exercise Regularly
Yoga, Tai Chi, gardening, walking or anything else that gets you moving. Exercise can be great for you physically and mentally. It provides a stress release and keeps your body healthy. It also helps your body release endorphins, which increase your feelings of overall well-being.

4. Maintain Social Support
Step out of your routine comfort zone. Attend a Reiki Share or other activity that connects you with people who are supportive. Regardless of whether the connection is in person or virtual, social support can keep you healthier and happier, creating a buffer against negative stress.

While you are thinking of others during this season of love, remember, "You, yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection."

Reiki Stories

Where Reiki practitioners gather, Reiki stories abound!

How did you first learn about Reiki?

Have you received or given yourself a Reiki treatment that resulted in a major shift?

Have you ever given a Reiki treatment where the receiver reported extraordinary results?

It's time to share your story with others. We want to include a Reiki Story is every newsletter.

Please compose your story in a "word" document. (About 500 words or less. That is only about 3-4 paragraphs.)

Send your story to us at diane@EastWestReiki.org before the 15th for the following month's newsletter.
