What is my Purpose? |
|
Many people go through their whole lives working and living and playing, raising children and being relatively happy doing so. Other people work really hard for years and years to accomplish and accumulate and wake up
one day and ask, "What was it all for?" There is an underlying question that often arises for people later in life. What is my purpose? Why am I here?
In his book, "A New Earth", Eckhart Tolle makes a distinction between inner and outer purpose. Our outer purpose is whatever the actual task is that we do, but our inner purpose has to do with the connection we have with ourselves. He
says, "...the true or primary purpose of your life cannot be found on the outer level. It does not concern what you do but who you are..." He goes on to say, "Finding and living in alignment with the inner purpose is the foundation for
fulfilling your outer purpose." In other words, our inner purpose is the driving force for everything that we do on the outside. It is the difference between "doing" life and "being" life.
I worked in hi-tech for 20 years always feeling discontented. I knew there was something else I wanted to do, but I had no idea what it was or how to get there. I just knew that I wanted to make a difference in the lives of others. It was
only when I took a leap of faith into uncertainty that my work began to emerge. It really helped however, to have done some work on my Personal Mission Statement beforehand. A Personal Mission Statement helps us to formulate a sense of our
inner purpose that can then guide us to our outer life work.
I hope you will consider joining me for the workshop Your Personal Mission Statement coming up on Saturday, February 7.

Movie Review: Groundhog Day |
|
This is one of my favorite movies of all time. It fits perfectly with the concept of "The Evolving Self" in that it is about transformation. Watch a man change from a self-centered, self-serving, narcissistic jerk to
an honest, altruistic, genuine guy in less than two hours.
Seriously, what a luxury. To have time stop while you process all your "stuff" and re-enter life when you're happy, emotionally healthy and living in present-moment awareness.
If you've never seen this movie, now is the time. It is the 15th Anniversary of the movie AND groundhog day is just around the corner (next week, February 2). It is heartwarming and entertaining. Enjoy!
