When Life Kicks You in the Butt... |
|
Have you ever heard this? "When life kicks you in the butt, make sure it's kicking you in the right direction". When I hear this, it reminds me of a number of things. First, it's not a matter of if, it's a
matter of when. We all have moments when life kicks us, it happens, having expectations otherwise is a miss-use of energy. Second, it's not personal. We didn't do anything to deserve it, nor can we really do anything to prevent it. Third,
the only way we can make sure that we are getting kicked in the right direction is to know where we're headed in the first place. This is not necessarily a destination per se, but is a general sense of where we want to be, who we are and
what's important to us.
Having a different 'reaction' to life's stressors implies a certain level of consciousness or self-awareness that only comes through regular practice. I'm a big proponent of journaling and affirmations. Used together they provide a
powerful punch to our negative emotional programming enabling us to raise unconscious beliefs to awareness so that we can make different choices and that is what "the right direction" is really all about.
What direction has life been kicking you?
If you are feeling stuck in your efforts to work through one of life's 'kicks', you may benefit from Spiritual Counseling and Coaching. For more information, see my website

Boundaries, Boundaries, Boundaries |
|
There are a lot of reasons why so many people find it difficult to set boundaries. We don't want to hurt other peoples' feelings, we're afraid of making people mad or even worse losing their approval or love. We're
basically afraid of conflict. Yet setting boundaries is an essential element of having a healthy relationship. It's a result of knowing where we end and other people begin.
Knowing the right words to say and the right way to say them is only the beginning. There is far more work to be done on knowing who we are, believing we have the right to set boundaries and developing loving emotional detachment from
those with whom we've been enmeshed.
Several of my classes are designed to help with these aspects of learning to set boundaries and all that goes with it. Check out
Communication Skills, coming up Wednesday, March 31 and
Narcissism in the 21st Century: A Call to Consciousness, Wednesday, May 12 to learn more about some of the most challenging individuals with whom to set boundaries.
In addition, Spiritual Counseling and Coaching is another option to work on developing a healthy sense of self. For more information, see my website
