Affirmation: I am free to be me as I breath in the light of the sun.

Quote: "I Yam What I Yam" Popeye the Sailorman

I Yam What I Yam

Do you remember Popeye the Sailorman? It was one of my favorite cartoons as a child growing up in the sixties. Each episode replayed the theme of Popeye facing an adversary (Brutus), being beaten down and then finding an inner source of strength (spinach in Popeye's case), to then rise up and beat back the foe.

There is something very compelling about this scenario. It speaks to the human dilemma, the human experience of struggle against overwhelming odds, insurmountable obstacles causing us to question ourselves, our purpose, the very meaning of our existence to tap into something within us, something greater that rises up to simply say, "I yam what I yam".

Perhaps it is the purpose of the Brutus' in our lives to force us into the "dark nights of the soul" when we let go of outer fixes, and finally seek within for something greater to show us the way back to the light.

One of the most profound things I've ever heard is that, while the problem may have resided in someone elses hands, the solution is and always will be in mine. In other words, regardless of what someone else has done to me, I and only I have the power to live my life as I choose. This generally requires that I rise to a higher level of consciousness, that I change my perspective and look at the situation with new eyes.

Here are some questions to ponder:
-What are the Brutus' in your life?
-What are these experiences calling forth from you?
-How would you have to behave to be able to walk away feeling good about yourself?
-What actions would you have to take to live by choice rather than by default?

The upcoming seminar, Narcissism in the 21st Century: A Call to Consciousness is based on the idea that the Brutus' in our lives are indeed a 'call' to a deeper level of consciousness. Please join me on Wednesday, May 12, 2010 6:00-9:00 PM. Location: Divine Science, 1540 Hicks Avenue, $35, $40 at the door. Bring a friend and each pay $25 (total $50).

I also work with individuals one-on-one to help them find their inner power and make conscious decisions in facing life's Brutus'. For more information, see my website www.theevolvingself.com. Living Your Life On Purpose

Most people go through their lives doing what they believe they "should" do, playing the party line and marching to the family or the company drum beat. Sooner or later however the question arises, "Is this as good as it gets?" This is the question Jack Nicholson asked in the movie of the same name.

How would your life be different if you lived on purpose? If you knew the name and plan for your life? George Bernard Shaw said, " This is the true joy in life, the being used for a purpose recognized by yourself as a mighty one...". Would you have more energy as you got out of bed in the morning? Would you feel more gratitude and joy in your life? Want to find out?

My dear friend Elizabeth Rowley has developed a workshop to help you do just that. Elizabeth has been a Licensed Religious Science Practitioner since July, 2007 and is currently in her third year of Consciousness Studies in the school of ministry at Holmes Institute in Santa Rosa. In her Intentions Workshop, Living Your Life On Purpose", she will take participants through a process to identify and name their purpose, set intentions, create affirmations, create their vision and much more.

This workshop is not to be missed for those who know you are here for a reason, but need clarity and guidance to get on track. Tuesday, May 18, 7:00 - 10:30 PM, Suggested Love Offering: $49. Call 408-368-5720 or email Elizabeth to register.
