The return of Prop G?

ANOTHER attempt to ban beer on the beach? It's unbelievable, but yet again someone is proposing to ban alcohol ALL YEAR LONG on the beach. Even though the people have voted this down repeatedly, the issue won't die, and this time it's a PB Town Council vote. If you are a member of the PBTC, please attend this meeting and vote. If you are not a member, you should still attend to voice your opposition. To become eligible for voting in the future, join the PBTC by filling out this application.

*** COME TO THE PBTC MEETING JUNE 21st ***

What: Alcohol Ban vote
Where: Bird Library, Cass/Thomas (tentative)
When: June 21, wed., 6:30pm
Info: www.pbtowncouncil.org

Smoking ban: Obviously we are all against cigarette butts on the beach, and have no patience for disrespectful smokers. But is banning smoking the right answer? Littering is already illegal, right? It's tempting to just ban something other than the actual (deplorable) act, but is that the best way to govern? We HATE litter on the beach more than anyone, but we don't think banning smoking is the answer. Please let us know how you feel. And contact Kevin Faulconer's office to register your opinion, whether or not you agree with us.

Update: The proposed ban has passed the Natural Resources & Culture Committee, and is headed for a full council vote. Friends, we don't plan to fight this tooth-and-nail, but we're not real stoked about it either, from a principles point of view. City documents, and Chief Lansdowne's thoughtful assessment of the proposed law.

Get involved: freepb.org has elected a new slate of directors, but have two positions open for dedicated members with an hour or two a week to spare -- let us know if you're interested in really taking an active role in preserving our freedom. Contact us.

4th of July 2006: As usual, we have plans to constructively address the issues that arise from having tens of thousands of locals and visitors having a great time on our beaches. Look for another update from us about this very soon.
