What's Important This Issue: Mission Bay Park Committee Meeting, Tues. Sept. 7

  • Date: Tuesday September 7th
  • Time: 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
  • Location: Santa Clara Recreation Center
  • Address: 1008 Santa Clara Place

The Mission Bay Park Committee will be doing a comprehensive review of this year's July 4th holiday weekend. The committee will review what went right and wrong this year, and begin to formulate plans to improve the event next year. The following groups will be presenting statistical information and their perspectives regarding the event:

  • San Diego Police Department (Chief Lansdowne)
  • San Diego Parks & Recreation Department
  • San Diego Lifeguards
  • freepb.org

Following the formal presentations, members of the public will be allowed to make comments (limited to three minutes per person). This is the most important meeting of the remainder of 2004 with respect to the July 4th holiday weekend. So if you want to make a difference, be sure to attend this meeting and make your voice heard.

We all know it was an amazingly well-managed, peaceful, and fun event for families and young adults alike (no riots!), but you can be certain a few very vocal complainers will be there to try and put an end to this beloved San Diego tradition, spouting the same old tired saws: "it's unsafe! the toilets could overflow!" Numbers talk here folks, so we need a solid turnout. You don't have to speak necessarily, just show up and make your opinion known.

More Upcoming Events

  • Michael Zucchet to Attend Next PBTC Meeting - MZ is scheduled to be present in the flesh for the Sept. 18 PBTC meeting. Those who have worked to ban alcohol on the beaches have announced their intention to attend this meeting and voice their displeasure with Mr. Zucchet for his position that we don't need more restrictive beach-use laws. Let's be there to support the guy who has supported the vast majority of the beach community residents -- those who don't want an alcohol ban.

  • Join the PBTC - Get the app here (pdf) if you want to have the privilege of voting at that meeting. Remember, you must be a member for 30 days before you can vote.

  • MB Town Council - Regular meeting Wednesday September 8, 7pm

Please keep the beach clean, and thanks for reading.
