Greetings to all!!
BIG SHOW
On Friday, May 23 we will present our annual program featuring our Country of Study Vietnam. This presentation features all of our students in 1st through 4th grades, and, in particular, our 4th grade students. Because of
the size of our audience, we perform this show two times the first presentation will occur at 8:20; the second show will be at 1:30. We would respectfully ask that parents and friends choose only one of the performances in order to
allow for everyone to view this extravaganza.
For those adults who wish to attend "Awards Day" in the Upper School gymnasium at 9:30, I recommend attending the 1:30 BIG SHOW performance.
Country of Study Day
Between the first and second performances of the BIG SHOW, our students will be treated to the annual "Country of Study Day" which will feature music, foods, traditions, and facts about Vietnam presented in a variety of ways.
We are grateful to our volunteer parents ably led by Laurie Moore and Anne Miller for investing the time to make this day a lasting memory for our students.
Have a great week.
Mr. D
Pre-K Update
This year is quickly coming to an end. This week begins the unit "Under the Sea". Many sea creatures and preschoolers will be floating around in our rooms and in the hallways, from starfish and jellyfish, to scuba divers in full gear.
Come by and "sea" our underwater paradise sometime.
Our letter this week is the letter "Oo" with Ollie Octopus. This is our last letter of the year can you believe it? From this point on we will be reviewing the letters and sounds as we hear them at the beginning and end of words.
Keep in mind that Fun Day is coming up on Monday, May 19th. The children love to have their parents come cheer them on to victory! If you are unable to come in the morning for the games, we hope to see you for a wonderful family picnic
after the closing ceremonies (11:00). You will need to pick your child up in his/her classroom before the picnic.
If you are unable to attend the picnic, please make arrangements for your child to eat with a friend's family and let your teacher know the details in a note as soon as possible. Should your child be staying for Extended Day, reservations
must be made by Thursday, May 15th. If your child is eating with a friend AND staying for Extended, please have the adult responsible for your child at lunch take him/her to the Extended Day teachers in the Pound Puppy room after 12:00.
The best laid plans will make for a smooth and exciting day!!

Mere words cannot begin to express our excitement about the "Butterfly Brunch" this Friday at 10:00 in the Kiva. Our week will be filled with last minute preparations and rehearsals. All kindergartners need to wear khaki uniform
pants, shorts, skirts, or skorts and a white uniform shirt or blouse to school on Friday. The teachers will supply all of the costume accessories. All you need to do is bring the camera!
Now go make sure the battery is charged!

Full Day Kindergarten
We are excited about the "Butterfly Brunch" this Friday morning. We will look forward to seeing all of our wonderful moms at 10:00 AM in the Kiva. Please note that the lunch order form for this week asks that you send a lunch box for your
child on Friday. We will provide a cheese sandwich with chips, dessert, and a drink for the brunch, but we know that we may get hungry later. We are planning to have a late lunch around 12:00 or 12:30 to get us through the remainder of the
day.
The Painted Lady butterflies and the ladybugs are being released by all of the kindergarten classes this week. We have learned so much watching the metamorphosis take place right before our eyes these past few weeks.
Enjoy these beautiful sunny days and please remember to turn in Book-in-a-Bag projects in a timely manner as we near the end of school. Thanks for all you do!

First Grade News
Our First Graders did a GREAT job in our Westward Ho production! We are so proud of all their hard work.
Today the first graders had a grand time buying "treasures" in our classroom store. This activity culminates our money unit and now we will be going on to fractions and measurement.
Our last poem is due the week of May 19th. Everyone has done such a good job of learning these this year and reciting them for their friends.
Yesterday, First Grade celebrated Cinco de Mayo! We made beautiful suns and pots of cactus. We also enjoyed breaking a piρata in each class.
State Museum Tuesday, May 20 First Grade will be going to the State Museum on Tuesday, May 20, to enjoy a program on pioneer life. We will be leaving school at 8:15 and returning at 12:30. Your first grader will need to bring
a bag lunch and drink on that day. Also, please remember to wear red shirts!
Rolling along,
The Proud First Grade Teacher Marms
Second Grade

Third Grade
Third graders really went "OVER THE TOP" with SC Projects! Come in a visit our library for a fantastic viewing of all of these magnificent works. All projects will need to be picked up in the library by this Thursday, May 8th. Please
make arrangements if your child cannot transport their project on their own. This Friday, May 9th, is our wonderful trip to Charleston. All four classes will be going together and need to be at school by 7:30 to insure that we have
everyone going. Please DO NOT BE LATE and miss this fantastic trip. Again, your child will need 2 snacks, with drinks, and a bag lunch.
Due to so many issues with "electronics" on our last field study, we will not allow ANY type of electronics for this trip. Your child may bring a book or coloring book to keep his/her attention on the bus. Thank you in advance for your
cooperation in this matter and there will be no exceptions. We are looking forward to a great learning experience in the low country of our state.
We will wind up our ERB testing on Thursday morning, so continue to have your child well rested and fed to ensure great success on these tests.
Happy to be at Hammond School,
The Third Grade Teachers
Fourth Grade
This week the 4th grade students have been working hard on the ERB tests. We still have two more days of testing and then we will be finished. Continue to work towards providing a good night's sleep as well as a healthy breakfast for
your child. Also, remind the students to bring their two #2 pencils to school.
Next Tuesday, May 13th, the 4th grade students and teachers will venture to the Middle School to catch a glimpse of life in the 5th grade. We will visit the Middle School from 8:15 until 10:00. We will then return to the Lower School for
a regular day in the 4th grade.
Mark your calendar now for Wednesday, May 28th. This will be a festive celebration where we will share information about our recent trip to Earthshine. We will also recognize the students and say farewell to them as they leave the Lower
School. This "Don't Miss" celebration will take place in the Lower School Fitness Center at 1:30. Students are able to leave school following the celebration. As a special treat, the 4th grade students will NOT have school on Thursday,
May 29th.
It's good to be a 4th grader at Hammond School!
