Dear Golden Eagles,
It is my sad duty to inform you that Mrs. Mary Zoe Kohler Staples, wife of Col Murray M. Staples, USMC (Ret), passed away on February 6, 2014. We were recently told of her passing. She was married to Col Staples for 65 years and is
survived by her 4 children and 3 grandchildren. Mary was born in Chicago, Illinois, in May 1926 and she grew up in Pensacola, Florida, and graduated from Pensacola Catholic High School. She met Murray on a blind date to go bowling. She had
a long love of learning and reading and persevered in getting a college degree long after most would have relented. After taking many courses in multiple locations, she finally achieved a degree in psychology from Pepperdine University.
Her early career as an emergency room nurse guaranteed that none of her children got the mini-bikes and motorcycles so coveted by youth. She worked in nursing homes, eventually rising to Head of Nursing for Care Enterprises, in charge of
20 nursing homes and flying by corporate jet. Zoe was the most compassionate and caring person. She nursed so many people in their final days. Hers was a life of giving and caring. She was buried at Riverside National Cemetery in
Riverside, CA, on February 22, 2014.
In Sadness, Don Boecker-Pilot
