It is my sad duty to inform you that Nell Grieve Swanson, wife of Emeritus Member, CAPT Charles A. L. "Cal" Swanson, USN (Ret), passed away on February 8, 2015.

Nell was born in Adams, Mass. on March 8, 1929. After graduating from Mary Washington University in Virginia, Nell joined the United States Navy and was commissioned an Ensign. She was promoted to Lieutenant Junior Grade and was assigned to be the Personnel Officer at NAS Patuxent River, Maryland, where she met the love of her life, Charles Albert Lindbergh Swanson.

They were married on July 4, 1954. During the following years they traveled the world with the Navy, finally retiring in San Diego. Nell was active in the La Jolla Presbyterian Church and a member of their choir for many years. She was on the Board of the Starlight Society, active in Angels of Aseltine and Saint Germaine. She was honored by the Salvation Army as a Woman of Dedication in 2001. Loving theater, she became a patron of Starlight Musical Theatre, the Old Globe, North County Repertory Theater and the Coronado Playhouse. Nell is survived by her husband, Cal; son Cal (Belinda); and daughter Rhoda. Nell was preceded in death by son Lynn.

A memorial service will be at La Jolla Presbyterian Church on Monday, March 16, 2015 at 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in Nell's memory should be made to: Warrior Foundation/Freedom Station, 1223 1/2 28th Street, Apt. A San Diego, CA 92102.
