Dear Golden Eagles,

It is my sad duty to inform you that Mrs. Zetta Ann Hudson, wife of LtGen John I. Hudson, passed away peacefully in the comfort of their home in the evening of July 5th as John held the hand of his long-time sweetheart, and wife of more than 60 years. Her remains will be cremated, and a service to celebrate Zetta's life will be held on Saturday, July 26th, 1000 AM at the Marine Corps Air Station Chapel in Yuma, AZ. The family requests that donations be made to the Hospice of Yuma or the Yuma Regional Medical Center Foundation in memory of Zetta in lieu of a floral tribute.

In Sadness, Don Boecker- Pilot

Obituary: Zetta Ann (Yates) Hudson was born in Horse Cave, KY on January 11, 1934 to Lenvel and Verble Yates. She died peacefully on July 5, 2014 at home in Mesa Del Sol. The Yates' moved to Murray, KY when Zetta was very young and she grew up in that town. Zetta and John Hudson met while attending Murray State University in 1951, and were married on June 27, 1954. Zetta and John celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on June 27, 2014. From the date of their marriage, Zetta was a strong supporter of John during his Marine Corps career and until his retirement on November 1, 1989. During those many years, Zetta moved her family and household 24 times as John was ordered to change of duty assignments. Also during those many years, Zetta was left with the responsibility of maintaining the household and the raising of their four children during the many training deployments and during several 13-month-long overseas deployments. As John's advancements in rank from 2nd Lieutenant to Lieutenant General increased his responsibilities, Zetta's responsibilities to support Marines, Sailors and their families increased as well, working in leadership roles with the American Red Cross, The Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, Officers' Spouse and Staff Non-Commissioned Officers' Spouse Clubs, and in being the "Mother Hen" to the spouses of many young Marines, both enlisted and officer. It is often said that a Marine wife has the toughest job in the Corps: it is a tough life and Zetta made it look easy.
Only four months after John's retirement, Zetta was stricken with viral cardiomyopathy. She was placed on the Heart Transplant List at the University Medical Center in Tucson, AZ in October, 1990, and underwent heart transplant surgery on May 11, 1992. After recovering from that surgery, she continued living an active lifestyle, playing golf, fishing, riding horses and enjoying her grown children and grandchildren. She was active in community activities as well and was, for many years, a member of the Yuma Regional Hospital Foundation Board of Directors. Zetta also participated as a member and as Chairman of the Yuma Friends of the University of Arizona Health Sciences, and took a leadership role in the Yuma County Republican Women's Club.
Zetta is survived by her husband, Lieutenant General, USMC (Retired) John Hudson, by daughter Lori (Herb) Greenbeck of Scottsdale, AZ, sons Reid (Terri) Hudson of Peoria, AZ, Yates (Michelle) Hudson of Phoenix, AZ, and Clark (Debbie) Hudson of San Diego, CA. She leaves 10 grandchildren and one great-grandson.
A Service to Celebrate Zetta's Life and the happiness she brought to so many of us will be held on Saturday, July 26, 10 AM at the Marine Corps Air Station Chapel. A reception will follow immediately at the Sonoran Club at MCAS. The family requests that donations be made to The Hospice of Yuma or the Yuma Regional Medical Center Foundation in memory of Zetta in lieu of a floral tribute.
