Remember the heyday of Dictaphones, those mini tape recorders designed for busy executives who lacked the time (and often ability) to type their own correspondence? Their digital descendants are still around; what's changed is that fewer in-office support folks are available (and equipped) to take a tape and transcribe your words into written form.

These days it's largely up to you to handle your own word processing… email, letters, meeting notes, call reports, you name it. When you're ready to dictate something, you call in… Copytalk will recognize you by Caller ID or prompt you for your phone number and PIN.

You dictate your "job" – up to five jobs on a single call – listening to incoming emails and dictating a response or initiating your own messages, letters or file notes. (As you work, you can press various keys on your phone keypad to review, edit, or accept what you've said.)

Once you finish a job you can send your correspondence to up to five people (depending on your subscription) on your recipient list; Copytalk's team of transcriptionists handle converting your spoken words into typed text. You can also view/download what you've transcribed online.

Copytalk's monthly subscription packages range from basic call-in access to email from your cell phone to full transcription support for meeting notes, memos, and appointment follow up. The higher end service will even call you when you get an important incoming email message.

Prices start at $19.95 per month (up to $69.95) and all four service options include a two-week trial at no charge.

Copytalk is a great example of technology freeing you to do the things that only you can do. If you're spending more time than you'd like at your keyboard it's worth checking out.
