L.A. City Council to consider new housing development requirements
The city's Planning & Land Use Management and Housing, Community & Economic Development committees will review the
city’s draft housing element proposal on July 29. State law requires
local governments to adopt a comprehensive, long-term general plan to guide existing and projected housing needs of each community.
The current draft resulted from a collaborative yearlong process with stakeholders, including the Chamber, which resulted in a balanced proposal. But the L.A. City Planning Commission introduced new recommendations recently
that would place onerous and costly mandates on developers that may serve as a financial disincentive to build housing in the city. Contact Public Policy Manager Vanessa Rodriguez, 213.580.7531 or
vrodriguez@lachamber.com.
