Shutdown: The cost of the state budget crisis for transportation
The headlines are full of alarming information on California's budget impasse. With no budget in sight, thousands of state employees are expected to be laid off starting this week. Public transit could end up on the
cutting room floor as politicians look for ways to fill the growing budget gap. Unable to sell bonds since June of 2008, the state has issued stop work notices to critical transportation projects. You can help by
sending an email to your legislator today.
Decoding the economic stimulus package: What it means for Southern California transportation
President Obama recently signed a $789 billion economic recovery package, which contains $46.7 billion for transportation, with the hope of plugging a finger in the country's economic leaks. Mobility 21 worked closely
with lawmakers to ensure that Southern California transit, highways and transportation enhancements would be funded as part of this new infusion of capital. Mobility 21 has been at the table with Caltrans and other transportation
stakeholders to make sure California gets its fair share of the money that is going directly to the state.
