Mobility 21 to State Legislature: Hands Off Transportation
Mobility 21 joined more than 75 business leaders from L.A. County as part of the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce's annual Access Sacramento trip. Meeting with key lawmakers and transportation officials, the message from the delegation
was clear: investing in transportation provides the jobs California needs to make its way out of the economic downturn. Transportation funding has so far escaped deep cuts, but even delays in receiving payment will stop critical
transportation projects now under construction or delay others from moving forward into construction. More than $2 billion in transportation projects in our region, which equates to more than 36,000 good paying jobs, could be
impacted if legislators cut transportation funding. Specific projects in jeopardy, should the Legislature suspend or delay payments from Proposition 42:
- Metrolink Ventura County Line Sealed Corridor, a key rail safety project
- More than a dozen projects in Riverside County, including the SR 60 East Junction HOV connectors, the SR 91/SR 71 interchange, and grade separations at Auto Center Drive and Iowa Avenue will be halted or delayed
- Los Angeles County could lose funding for Phase 2 of the Exposition Light rail line as well as funding for projects on the I-5, SR 138, I-405 and more
- San Bernardino has seven projects in the crosshairs, including several interchanges on the I-10 and projects on the I-215 and I-15
- Orange County says that critical projects to relieve congestion on the SR-91 and I-5 would be halted or delayed
Mobility 21 Executive Director Marnie O'Brien Primmer will be in Sacramento next week with members of the Orange County Transportation Authority to keep pressure on legislators.

Where is transportation in climate change legislation?
The Waxman-Markey bill misses the mark when it comes to climate change. The House bill does not include a provision for including transit in the climate change solution. Mobility 21 is
urging the Senate to correct this grave oversight. Enacting climate change legislation that does not provide regions with additional tools to fund potential solutions to mobile sources of greenhouse gas emissions is like buying an
electric car without a plug.
