Question of the month
Most agree that the gas tax is not a long-term solution for funding our transportation needs. Congress is considering many options, including replacing the gas tax with a
"vehicle-miles-traveled fee."
Would you support a vehicle miles traveled fee to replace the federal gas tax?

Join the transportation community in honoring Snoble and Leahy
Mobility 21 will co-host two events honoring founder Roger Snoble and current Mobility 21 Chair Art Leahy.
-
Snoble is stepping down after seven and a half years at the helm of Metro, the third largest transit system in the country. His legacy of regional collaboration is embodied in the success of the Mobility 21 coalition which has grown to
more than 2,500 members since its inception seven years ago as the brainchild of Snoble and former Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce President & CEO Rusty Hammer. The Chamber and Mobility 21 will host a
reception for Snoble on Monday, March 30.
-
Leahy, who has been at the head of the Orange County Transportation Authority for the past eight years, will take over from Snoble on April 6. His commitment to continuing the regional efforts of Mobility 21 is strong, and as the chair of
the coalition he has been a champion for consensus-based action. Mobility 21 and the Orange County Business Council invite you to attend a
farewell mixer for Leahy on Thursday, March 26.
Mobility 21 leads transportation delegation in Washington, D.C.
Mobility 21 joined more than 200 business, civic and elected leaders from across the region on the largest Southern California on the Hill - Access Washington, D.C. trip ever undertaken. More than 60 delegates
participated in nearly 30 transportation meetings with key congressional offices and department of transportation officials. The message was clear: Southern California expects increased transportation funding; we need a dedicated fund for
goods movement; we want to reduce congestion while also protecting our environment; and Congress needs to fund their safety mandates. "California is expected to fare particularly well under the high-speed rail stimulus fund," said Joel
Szabat, deputy assistant secretary for transportation policy. "You are light years ahead of others with the passage of your bond."
