And the Winner Is…
Last month, Mobility 21 asked readers to submit ideas for naming our newly launched e-Newsletter. The winning submission--out of 20 great ideas--comes from long-time Mobility 21 supporter, Kymberleigh Richards of Southern California Transit Advocates. "Forward Motion," captures the spirit of what Mobility 21 is all about--moving ahead with the mission of improving mobility for all Southern Californians.

Other notable entries included MovesNews, Mobility News, The Mobility 21 Connector, and Getting There: News from Mobility 21. Thank you to all who submitted creative ideas. Kymberleigh will receive complimentary admission to next week's Mobility 21 Transportation Summit.

Mobility 21 Supports Measure R
Local transportation measures provide regional transportation agencies with the tools to leverage ever scarcer state and federal funding. With the ability to enact taxpayer oversight and accountability, these measures give voters confidence that the projects promised under a local measure will be delivered. Mobility 21 applauds L.A. County for seeking local funds to retain control over its transportation destiny. With the proposed half-cent sales tax, an additional $40 billion for public transit and highways could be raised over the next 30 years, enabling the completion of major projects throughout the County. Vote YES on Measure R.

Gov. Schwarzenegger Signs Toll Road Legislation
Mobility 21 applauds Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger for recently signing two bills--SB 1316 and AB 1954--which will allow the Riverside County Transportation Commission (RCTC) to construct high occupancy toll lanes on State Route 91 and Interstate 15. Through the legislation, RCTC will be able to invest more than $2 billion in transportation infrastructure in the next 10 years.

Gov. Schwarzenegger Signs SB 375
Despite potential negative impacts to transportation, Gov. Schwarzenegger recently signed SB 375, legislation designed to tighten development requirements as related to greenhouse gas emissions. Mobility 21 will keep you informed of work with legislators to clarify aspects of the bill. Read the governor's signing message. Mobility 21 Speaks Out on Behalf of SR-241 Toll Road
Mobility 21 joined regional leaders to speak on behalf of the SR-241 in Orange County at a public hearing Sept. 22 in San Diego. Mobility 21 is a proponent of the toll road, citing stakeholders' agreement on the preferred alignment and the fact that the Foothill South extension will not result in any lost homes or businesses or cost taxpayers money. The Secretary of Commerce is expected to have a ruling before the end of the year. Should the result be favorable to the Toll Roads, this would grant the CZMA permit needed by the project, effectively overturning the decision made by the California Coastal Commission in April. The project will still have to secure a permit from the San Diego Water Quality Control Board, with further public input.
