From the Superintendent:
"Students more focused"
|
|
Dear LightSPEED,
"The LightSPEED sound-field system was piloted in one of our elementary schools. The building Principal, the Speech/Language consultant and the District Test Coordinator monitored students throughout the year...Rather than spending the
money on individual units for specific students, a decision was made to take advantage of the classroom systems so that all students could have the benefit of sound amplification. Teachers immediately noticed that their students
were more focused on instruction and remained on task longer. As the time on task increased, so did the ability to comprehend and retain the academic material. To quantify the effects of the use of the sound systems, we used the Reading
and Language sections of the CTB Terra Nova Complete Battery as a pre and post test for students in first grade. We found a significant increase in student performance (20-30 points per classroom) and decided to implement the installation
of sound systems throughout our school district beginning the next school year."
Jerry P. Tarnoff, Superintendent of Schools, West Orange Public Schools, NJ
