Release of new Delivery Study
Last year, MarketingSherpa made waves by attacking conventional wisdom and suggesting that Monday might be a better day for some marketers to send email than the traditionally favored mid-week hump.

Last month, the empirical data was finally released*. We wanted to share it with you to help you with your email campaign planning.

The bottom line? Performance by day of week is a moving target that may be affected by seasonality as well as overall email send trends. Click here for fascinating charts comparing send volumes, open rates, and click rates by day of week across the three quarters -- from May 2004 to December.

You should look at your own email delivery and see if you are following a trend of sending emails on the same day and time each week or month. Mix up the times and days that you send this next month's emails and see if you get a better response. Everyone has an audience that responds better at different times and days. And if you have competitors that email on Thursdays, maybe you should get your message out on a Wednesday.

Look over your time and day charts in the Tracking section to see where you are getting the highest levels of opens, reads and clicks. And most importantly when they convert, download or buy.

New Cooler Features
1. In the My Account - Update Account screen, you can now activate a new feature called "Compress Control Panel" which converts the list of editions to a dropdown menu. This feature allows you to clean up the Main Page if you maintain multiple lists and editions. Note: Archive those old editions with the "Archive" button at the top of the Editions box.

2. In the Contacts page, there is a new link at the bottom called "Easy Add To Contacts" which opens up a separate page with a long select multiple box for adding contacts to a list. It is faster and easier than typing each contact's email address into the manual add table.

3. You can now see bounce reports on the Track page for any edition you have sent out. For the top 10 domains delivered to, you will see the total sent, the total bounces, and bounce types. Something you should watch closely to understand which ISPs might be filtering your content as well as what percentage of your list might be outdated.

4. A new and improved the Survey system!

Get your Customer to Update Your CRM

A tip that we find valuable is to prominently feature an "Update Your Profile" button, link or call to action at least once a quarter. The footer always makes this available, but you need to get it in front of your customer. Things change and you should make and effort to know.

In each List Setting you can select what fields the subscriber can update. Check these settings to make sure that you are allowing updates to the data you need.

Also take advantage of the Custom User Fields in the Master CRM. Set those up to be used for other data that can help you to better target your subscriber with focused campaigns, instead of just using the Shotgun Approach. Sure you will hit a few, but wouldn't it be better to hit the whole flock?

Tell them Who is Sending

Something that we find important with email signups, is letting the subscriber know who to expect to get email from. After someone subscribes to your list, you can control the thank you page by using the List Wizard in the Help Tab Under Auto-Subscribe. This will walk you through setting up your fields, the thank you email, any delayed triggers or future autoresponders as well as the thank you page or confirmation page.

On the Thank you/Confirmation page, make sure to post something like this:

Thank you for (subscribing, downloading, contacting us). Look for email to come to your inbox from person@company.com. If you use a Trusted Sender list or address book to control your inbox, make sure to add this address to ensure that you receive the emails.

Thank you ...
