CAN-SP@M Updates
Break from the Norm

Tip o' the Month

Keep in mind that Gmail, Outlook 2003, and other email applications default to blocking images within HTML email. Don't forget to put a "View this email as a webpage" link at the top of every email campaign. You can either use the Header option in your List Settings or embed the link directly into your message body. To get the code for this link, login to your CoolerEmail account, go to the "Help" tab and type in "View email as a webpage" into Knowledgebase. Copy and paste that link into your HTML email.

CoolerEmail Upgrades
To ensure and maintain the highest deliverability rates in the industry, we have refined and augmented our highly acclaimed bounce management system. Certain bounces that previously may have been labeled as a "soft" bounce will now be more accurately recorded as a "hard" bounce. This reclassification is made possible by improved technology, better data and expanded alliances with ISPs from around the country. Over time, this upgrade will steadily increase the cleanliness of your campaigns and your house lists for future communications.

As a reminder, in each account you have a MY Account Tab which has an "Update Account" section. In this section there is an area that allows you to set a bounce rule which helps to clean your list of bad addresses. The default setting in each account is 3 bounces.

Other noteworthy upgrades include:
  • Test emails (also known as "single shots") are now delivered through the IP address that you normally send your broadcasts from and not our bank of test email server IP's. This upgrade improves the consistency of the statistical feedback for your campaigns.
  • The default for the "Send to a Friend" feature is now set to a link (instead of a form) as many email clients work better with links than forms. Of course, you can always override the default link and use a form if you would like.
  • On the stats page, the CoolerTracks graph will now display only up to the top 20 pages, to make the graph more readable if you are tracking activity on a more complex website
  • CAN-SP@M Updates from the FTC
This past week, the FTC released some new guidelines and further explanations to the ACT. We have summarized them for you and will stress that it is worth your time to get the whole PDF on the ACT and read the ACT for yourself.

    Key Changes:
    "Sender" has a new definition
    Changes to Suppressions and Removals
    Physical Mailing Address
    Break from the Norm
From the Store Wars, to Adverblog, to Subservient Chicken to Darth Vader Mind Games, we are seeing it all out there. Many of them are really traditional advertising ideas, just repurposed as a "viral" concept to ride the wave and gain more coverage.

Try to break from the norm, and create an email campaign that is "viral" and spreads via word of mouth (or should we say "word of mouse").
