Tip o' the Month

Building Cooler Profile Management Forms for your site:

If anyone in your company or your web team is familiar with XML in any way, we have released an XML API that allows you to build custom profile update forms into your website. The reason that this is such a great feature is that it keeps your customers, prospects and clients where you want them... your site.

Using the XML API you can create a custom profile update page from your email template to the landing page within your site and it will dynamically pull the user profile, mailing lists and other data you would like them to update through your own site. This API is a trust builder, and just plain Cooler. We also have vendors that have perfected this technology with 3rd party software that you can use to integrate into your website. Let us know if you would like more information.

In the Knowledge Base, type in "XML" and you will find information on how to post and retrieve data into and out of your CoolerEmail CRM and mailing lists.

We are always striving to make CoolerEmail even better. Customer requests for feature enhancements are responsible for many additions. If you have feedback or suggestions, please send them to suggest@cooleremail.com.

And as always.... be cool!

New CoolerEmail Features
1. New Search Box on Control Panel Page
On the My Account – Update Account screen, you can now check a box to activate a search function on the Control Panel. This convenient function acts as a filter, displaying editions on the control panel that contain a particular search string.

2. Archive Editions - Truly Archives
Also on the My Account – Update Accounts screen, you can check a box to display any mailing lists that have been completely archived at the bottom of the Control Panel. This is a bit of a reverse from how it used to work, where all archived editions by default were shown at the bottom of the Control Panel. Now, if you check the box, your Control Panel will display lists in which all editions have been archived.

3. Click Threshold Tracking
We have recently completed a new function that we think many clients will be happy is available. It's notification of when a threshold is reached when clicking on a link. For example, let's assume you send out an email for a new product, event or demo. Once the subscriber hits the click threshold for that link (the recipient clicked it 3 times) it will send an alert email with the link and the contact to the address of your choice.

Imagine getting an instant notification for more product information, a news release, or the call to action goal for your campaign, and being very proactive and timely with your personal outreaches.

To test it for yourself, go to Libraries - Link Library. You will see a new column called Notification Options.

4. Remove Link Tracking
We have had multiple requests from clients asking us to be able to
turn the tracking URL off on mailto: links. How can you do this? This is located in the Help files. Place a "notrack" in front of any URL or mailto in order to prevent tracking.

5. Add an introductory message to your broadcasts
You can now activate the Introductory Message for Broadcasts feature in the My Account - Update Account screen. This will allow you to add a small bit of text at the top of your broadcast, similar to what you can do for single-shot test messages.

6. New Spell Check System Coming
It was time to add a new spell checker to the preview screen and we are hard at work adding a new one that will blow your socks off. Look for a release of this new system at the end of the month.

7. New ACT! 2005 Plug-In Available
After considerable testing, the new ACT! 2005 plug-in is now available for download on our website. Go to the ACT! resources page here.
Changes in State Laws that Affect You
Even with the National CanSp@m Act that we are all very familiar with, we have seen some states now release (as of July 1st) their own sets of rules.
-> Directly impact permission mailers
-> Carry nasty penalties
-> Launch new state Do Not Email registries
-> Are *not* circumvented by CAN-SP@M compliance

Plus, individuals can bring lawsuits if they think you're breaking the new laws ... so you're not protected by possibly sluggish state enforcement.

Sender ID and You
This past month, Microsoft announced that it had implemented SenderID into MSN and Hotmail accounts. SenderID is their way of verifying the domain that the email is sent from is legitimate. CoolerEmail is and has been SenderID compliant for some time.

Sender ID seeks to verify that every e-mail message originates from the Internet domain from which it claims to have been sent. This is accomplished by checking the address of the server sending the mail against a registered list of servers that the domain owner has authorized to send e-mail. This verification is automatically performed by the Internet service provider (ISP) or recipient's mail server before the e-mail message is delivered to the user. The result of the Sender ID check can be used as additional input into the filtering tasks already performed by the mail server. Once the sender has been authenticated, the mail server may consider past behaviors, traffic patterns, and sender reputation, as well as apply conventional content filters when determining whether to deliver mail to the recipient.

Sender ID is still not a finalized protocol and is subject to change. While our DNS records are compliant with Microsoft's current Sender ID protocol, we are testing various deployments to ensure that future versions of Sender ID will not require any DNS modification by any CoolerEmail users. Stay tuned, as we will keep you posted as these technologies develop.
