Making a List and Checking it Twice

What We Are Reading

Calls to Action and Closing the Loop

Fall is descending upon us and we are staying hard at work to keep CoolerEmail cool for your fall campaigns. As the end of the year approaches, we are all working to it our year end goals of sales, growth and campaigns that stand out from all the rest. This month we are hoping to help you get the most out of your lists and close the loop.

Tip o' the Month

Have you taken advantage of the new RSS feature in the Cooler platform? RSS is an acronym for Rich Site Summary, an XML format for distributing news headlines on the Web (also known as syndication). This feature may not be for everyone..yet.. but you should start to experiment with how it can help your business. To start, turn on RSS inside your My Account - Update Account screen. Then, in each List Settings panel you have the option to add an RSS feed to an existing list. This allows you to create another way to interact with your targeted audience. RSS is on the rise and the consumer today is beginning to catch on with many of the large portals and ISPs adding RSS into the options in email accounts. It is already included in Safari, Firefox and will be in the next release of Internet "Exploder" this fall. If you use any of these browsers you might have seen an RSS symbol in the URL Address bar already. This symbol alerts users of RSS to an easy way to add it to their news reader or news aggregator.

We have found an easy way to track the RSS feed is to first create it (if you have activate it in the list settings it will give you a link on the broadcast screen). When you have this link, copy it and go to FeedBurner.com. When you set up an account with Feedburner you can add your RSS feed to your list there. This action will give you a tracking RSS URL to use in place of the one we provide you. Use this one to add to your website under and RSS link. When you have this done and your subscribers and visitors add it to their news reader, you will now be able to track the use of it through feedburner. This opens up a good way to measure the acceptance of RSS by your audience.

We are always striving to make CoolerEmail even better. Customer requests for feature enhancements are responsible for many additions. If you have feedback or suggestions, please send them to suggest@cooleremail.com.

And as always.... be cool!

Making a List and Checking it Twice
One of the most important things that goes into a successful campaign starts with your list. List might sound like a no brainer to many folks, but without strong performing opt in only lists, you are setting yourself up for poor response rates and quite possibly some complaints.

One way to keep your lists clean is to use the automatic system (My Account --> Update Account --> set bounces to "X") in place to clean your list based on delivery. If you have subscribers that are having issues being delivered to each campaign, this system will default those to "Bounced" after "X" hard bounces. Using this feature will help you to keep you list cleaner and Cooler.

Also, do not be afraid to segment your list by the variables that will better deliver targeted messages to the right audience. Some examples of this would be by state, type of client, product already owned, response history (click history on certain links and campaigns), and even by gender. Segmenting your lists can assist you in sending messages that are better optimized for each groups response or need.

To create new lists based on these above ideas, simply use the New List button at the top of your Control Panel. This will lead you into a section that allows to you create the list in the first column, then in the center column segment based on one or many variables you have in the CRM or past campaign response history. The last column on the right makes it easier to drop a certain pre-built edition into each list to keep you from needing to build new editions each time.

Advanced users may also want to take a look at our Dynamic Mail Merge functions, to create specialized content for recipients on the fly.

Happy Hunting!

Calls to Action and Closing the Loop
How are you measuring a good campaign? You must have in place some goals for sales, downloads and lead capture. The most important part of this is a clear call to action and a clear landing page for each action. What this means is creating a landing page for each different link. So if you are trying to sell a certain product, do not take them to the main page, but to the product page or offer itself. We all know how hard some sites are to navigate (still) so save everyone some time and frustration by driving them to the exact page.

On these pages (and for best practices all pages in your site both HTTP and HTTPS) you should insert CoolerEmail's CoolerTracks code to measure conversions and page views. The CoolerTracks system is an easily-implemented, yet powerful webmetrics system that will show you exactly what each subscriber is looking at, and if you have e-commerce in place, the total sales generated per campaign.

For more information on CoolerTracks see the Knowledge base in your CoolerEmail account or learn about it here.
