Pasting from MS Word |
The Importance of Not Pasting from Microsoft Word
CAUTION: Do not paste any content directly from a Microsoft Word document into the CoolerEditor™ version 1 or 2. interface.
No, we're not bashing Bill Gates, but we do want to warn CoolerEmail users about pasting from Microsoft Word when using the CoolerEditor™ interface.
Why? Microsoft uses proprietary, hidden formatting code that will be copied over with the content. The formatting won't be visible when pasting, but it is surely there, lurking in the code of the edition. Notice it by clicking on the
button labeled "‹H›"
The trouble becomes more apparent when creating a new edition from a previous edition that was created with content pasted from Microsoft Word. Although users may think they are simply copying and pasting new Word content over old Word
content, the old content's hidden formatting is NOT removed. Instead, more hidden formatting code is added; thus, they unknowingly duplicate the formatting code and double the size of that edition's HTML code.
Always copy Microsoft Word content first into an ASCII editor, such as Notepad or TextEdit. Then copy again and paste into the CoolerEditorT interface. Remember, this tip is specific to the first two versions of CoolerEditor™ which is a
template overlay inside the Edition Editor that effectively makes it a WYSIWYG interface (What You See Is What You Get). When you use CoolerEditorT, you don't see any HTML code that may otherwise be used with one of the standard templates
in the Edition Editor. Although Word content pastes much easier into CoolerEmail's other templates, pasting into an ASCII text editor first and then into CoolerEmail is still recommended.

Gmail Issues |
So Many Gmails , So Little Time...
When designing and developing an HTML email, there are four different Gmails to consider, according to a post published on
CampaignMonitor.com/blog. Each Gmail version has its own way of handling HTML and CSS, writes Mark Wyner.

Tracking Tips for Savvy CoolerEmail Users |
In the past two editions of Cooler Tips, we covered the basics of CoolerEmail's tracking capabilities and
CoolerTracks™, a premium service for those subscribers who want more sophisticated tracking data.
This month we promised to provide specific tips for using CoolerEmail's tracking features to improve email marketing efforts.
We at CoolerEmail would like to see our customers take full advantage of the tracking page. One of the first things that comes to mind is the ability to create a new Mailing List and Edition based on tracking results. This is an option
that is available at the bottom of every tracking pop-up window. From the control panel, find the desired edition and select "Track."
On the tracking page, there is a variety of options to choose. Let's start with selecting the link "Read" under the "Number of subscribers" graph. Click on "Read" to bring up a "Tracking Detail" pop-up window showing all the subscribers
who read that particular edition. Next, scroll to the bottom of the pop-up window where you will see this text: "To create a new list from these addresses, enter the mailing list name below." Following that are two boxes: "Mailing List
name" and "First Edition name."
In the first box, come up with a new name for this list, such as "Read" followed by the date of that edition, e.g. "Read011508."
In the second box, project a name for the first edition to be sent to this list, such as "Follow Up Letter."
Then, click on the button "Create New List."
A new box comes up saying "New list created - see bottom of page (click here) for details." If you select the link "click here," it automatically takes you to the bottom where you will see a note, such as "Creating new mailing
list..............Done!
Your new list "Read011508" has been created with 698 new contacts in it."
Go to the Control Panel and refresh the page. This new mailing list and its first edition with the names you gave them earlier will now show up in Control Panel -- listed in alphabetical order according to the name of the mailing list.
This is an extremely useful tool for those clients who would like to send a follow-up email to all the contacts who read a particular edition. It can also be used to follow up with those who clicked on a particular link. Under the
"Click-thrus by URL" table on the tracking page, select any of the links shown to see which readers visited each link. For those who click on a "donate" button, for example, you could follow up with an email thanking them for their
contribution or urging them to donate again.
This tool can also be utilized if a survey is added to an edition. CoolerEmail tracks all answers on the tracking page, so a client could send a follow-up email to everyone who, for example, selected "Yes" to question No. 4 in their
survey. Or perhaps if the survey is used as an RSVP, it could be helpful to email those who said "yes, they will" or "no they won't" be attending.
Another good tool that tends to be underutilized is the ability to email access of a particular tracking page to a third party, allowing them access to the statistics only (not the pop-ups containing contact information or the account).
This feature is found at the bottom of every tracking page with text that reads: "Email access to this page to" followed by a field for the email address and another for comments.
In addition to edition tracking, CoolerEmail also has the MasterCRM tracking available within the Reports page of the MasterCRM. A great tool within this page is the tracking of "New Subscribers from your Website Signup Form, Subscribers
from Send-to-a-Friend and Recent Unsubscribes." This allows clients to see up to 60 days of contact revenue within their account. This is a great tool for keeping updated on activity with these contacts.
Basically, the more data you can mine, the better your chances of successfully marketing through email. Remember in email marketing, it's tracking, tracking, tracking. And with CoolerEmail, tracking is easier than ever and, more
importantly, leads to positive results. |

Marketing Trends and Concepts for 2008 |
The World Wide Web and "green marketing" are sizzling; Baby Boomers are still tops in demographics; and marketing basics, including customer retention and ROI, are of greatest interest to marketers in
2008, according to a new survey of marketing executives conducted by
Anderson Analytics. In a story published on
MarketingCharts.com, "green marketing" was identified as the trendiest buzzword, while search engine optimization ranked second behind marketing basics.
The survey also touched on global issues, finding that China is believed to offer the best future opportunity. In a section on resources, the three most recently read books and the all-time favorite business book for marketing executives
are revealed.
