SPRINT PCS SHUT DOWN
Sprint PCS Shuts Down Email Domain

As a result of the abrupt step Sprint PCS took on Dec. 31, 2008, to stop delivering email to @sprintpcs.com email addresses, CoolerEmail has added this domain as a global unsubscriber domain so users won't have to worry about generating bounces. Sprint is offering a way to transfer address books and emails to several web-based services that users can access via Sprint's Mobile Email offering, but it no longer provides email at Sprint domains. Unfortunately, the rapid shutdown of the Sprint PCS service means it's too late to send Sprint subscribers an email to suggest they change addresses. CoolerEmail users might consider using other channels, such as postal contact information, to encourage former Sprint PCS customers to subscribe with a new email address.

COOL NEW IMPORT TOOL
Streamlining Data Import
Into the Master CRM

The new import tool is in full beta and offers CoolerEmail clients with an easy, efficient way to import all their contacts into the Master CRM. Check it out by logging into your account and selecting the Master CRM tab. Next, click on the "Import (beta)" tab. Inside the import tool, there's a handy-dandy box in which users can browse and upload their import file into the CoolerEmail system.

Below that box are brief explanations about import files and opt-in records, along with an example of an import file. Import files are simply "text (tab delimited)" files that include email addresses, of course, along with other pertinent fields for each record. Note that Microsoft Word documents are not compatible; however, Excel spreadsheets can be saved as text (tab delimited) files. Other contact management and database applications usually have a way to export data as text delimited files.

After a file is uploaded, the user is presented with a preview of its contents and a set of import options to help adjust exactly how it is imported. This preview section represents the biggest change from the former method of importing data. Overall, the new import tool features many advantages:

Users now have the ability to map the import file's columns to the CoolerEmail CRM columns, and they can even skip columns from being processed. They can also choose their file delimiter (i.e., there are multiple options for delimiters). The process is similar to Microsoft Excel's import text file process.

Users no longer need to have the email column as the first field in the import file and the mailinglist column in the last field.

CoolerEmail's import tool fully supports comma-separated values (CSV) formats. To learn more about CSV file formats, see this page on Wikipedia.org.

More stringent email checks are available. CoolerEmail can now check if the recipient's domain has published DNS records indicating that it accepts email, which is useful in capturing misspelled domains.

All of the various import options on the preview screen provide the user with much more granular control over their imports.

Users can export data from their systems in nearly any format that they choose, and CoolerEmail's import tool can accommodate it. Therefore, there is no need for any data modification between exporting from almost all databases and importing into CoolerEmail's system.

In contrast to an "upload and hope it works" approach, the new import system allows the user to upload a file and see how the data will be handled, providing an extra level of comfort.

The new import tool was launched in beta at the beginning of the new year. By March 1, the beta import tool will be the sole method of importing data.
